Hello, and welcome to Dinner Tonight. My name is Tiffany Traylor and I am with Prairie View
A&M Cooperative Extension Program. And today we are at
the Water Sense Labeled Home at Texas A&M AgrLife
Extension and Research Center here in Dallas. Today I'm going to be making
a really easy and inexpensive recipe. I'll be making
Ravioli with Tomato. This is a great recipe because it has very
few ingredients, so it's pretty quick to put together. What I've done
ahead of time is I have cooked my ravioli. And when you purchase your ravioli,
you may purchase it frozen or fresh, but either way
follow the instructions on the package to make sure that it's cooked correctly.
Now, I've added some olive oil to my pan and I'm going to
heat it to a medium-high heat. To this I'm
going to add in onion. And these
are just onions that I have chopped and frozen. And I'm going to
add in some garlic. Now, what I will do with
these two ingredients is I'm going to mix them around and cook them
until they're a little translucent, which means they're a little bit see-through.
While this is cooking, I do want to give one Water Sense tip. Always
make sure you have a full load of dishes in your dishwasher before you get it
started. Now, again, you want to make sure that this is cooked all
the way through before adding in your other ingredients. So, the
other thing that I am going to add in is grape tomatoes.
Now these grape tomatoes I have cut in half
and I'm going to add those in. Adding in those grape tomatoes helps give a
lot of color to your recipe and it adds a lot of extra flavor
without adding too much salt and sodium.
And I am going to just season it with a little bit of salt and pepper. Sprinkle that
on top. And I'm going to add in
some water.
And next we'll add back our
cooked ravioli.
And again, I'm using the
cheese ravioli but you could choose the whole grain ravioli which
would give you more fiber and less calories. And I'm going to just
mix those around together making sure that the
tomato, the onions, and the garlic are all covering
our ravioli that we have here in the skillet. And we'll let that
cook for about 5 minutes. And now that we've let this
cook and our tomatoes have started to soften, we're going to add in
some fresh parsley that I've just cut with some
kitchen shears. And again, this adds in a lot of
extra flavor and color which we love to see. It's always important that
when we eat our vegetables that we try to get a variety of colors
because the colors all represent different nutrients that those foods provide for us.
And lastly, I'm just gong to top this with some parmesan cheese. And this
is a low-fat parmesan cheese and there's also a fat-free
variety. And this is ready to enjoy and serve. Today
I am serving this with a salad which includes spinach
carrots, and tomatoes. And I hope your family enjoys this recipe
just as much as my family does. And the next time you're wondering what's for dinner tonight, make sure to check
