A very common question when people come into my training programs is they go, Lucas,
I want to be able to connect with everyone. I just want to give a presentation and everyones
going to really like me. This is not possibly, okay? I hate to burst your bubble and sound
like a downer but the reality is that you will not connect with everyone and this is
a great thing. You see when people want to succeed and make
a connection with everyone, be liked by everyone, that is the quickest way to fail. The reason
is youre unique. Youre unique. Im unique. We have a unique message. We show
up in the world. We have different backgrounds and experiences. Some people are going to
resonate with you and some people wont. This is perfectly acceptable. I dont know
about you but I dont like everyone. There are certain people that for no valid reason,
they kind of rub me the wrong way. Intuitively, I have a gut instinct that I dont particularly
care for them. I wouldnt do business with them. Im sure this is the same with you.
So you really want to not be liked by everyone because what it does is it acts like a filter.
There are certain people that dont resonate with my message. That's why there are so many
different coaches out there, because each of us have our own unique style. The key is
that the people that resonate with you, that say, I like what youre doing. I like
your approach. I like your style. I like your strategies and your techniques, they are
going to be the ones that make a decision. Theyre going to be the ones that go all
in. This is exactly what you want because this is what forms your loyal tribe. Once
you have your loyal tribe, this gets people onboard to share your message with others.
So this is absolutely a great thing. People come up to me, too, and theyre like,
Well if people arent liking me, maybe theyre going hate me. Oh no, not haters!
Look, haters are a great thing, too. Maybe it sounds like Im trying to put a positive
spin on everything that could be negative but its not the case. I really believe
that haters are one, inevitable, and two, its actually a good sign. Theyre inevitable
because you look at people that have made a huge impact on the world, Mother Teresa,
Gandhi, Martin Luther King, people that shaped the world as we see it today, there are a
lot of people that hate on them, that dont like what they were doing.
Well if you could hate them then surely you may not agree with what Im saying. Lets
be realistic here. There are people that get gratification from sitting at home and posting
comments that are negative about you. This is what gives them a boost in life. So you
have to understand that thats a part of it. The other part though is that haters are
a sign that youre doing something right because nobody hates on someone that gets
no exposure. Thats just a waste of their time. So if you are getting hate comments
and people say negative stuff about you, its a sign that youre actually getting exposure
because a) they found you and b) theyve chosen to waste their time saying negative
stuff about what youre doing. So just accept it for what it is and focus
on the people that resonate with your message, that hear what youre saying and theyre
going, Yes! You are the right person for me. This is the key because when you focus
your energy on the people that love you, that are resonating with you, this makes you forget
about everyone else because you can only focus on the people that are willing to take action
and those people are the ones that resonate with your message.
