Hi, I am Norah Jones.
And I am Piers Sellers.
NASA spends a lot of time looking out into our universe.
But it also spends a lot of time looking in—at Earth.
In addition to satellites that provide scientists
with vital information about the health of our planet,
NASA research often results in technologies that clean
contaminated land and water, improve air quality,
and even help ecologists understand
the habits of endangered animals.
NASA’s pioneering efforts are greatly improving
energy efficiency and reducing our carbon emissions:
in fact, we have helped developed
aircraft winglets and turbine blades.
And even a technology first created to provide
astronauts on Mars with fuel and oxygen, is now
generating clean energy for organizations
and businesses across the country.
As new NASA programs call for innovations in energy,
some of these same innovations will be applied
to create efficient, affordable power on Earth.
NASA research can be as much about
our planet as any other, Norah.
That’s right Piers. There’s more space
in your life than you think.
