Hi, this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute.
Your safety on Kentucky's roads is our foremost concern.
And the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet continues to encourage motorists to use their seat belt
whenever they're in a vehicle.
Recently, the Transportation Cabinet recognized a Campbell County man who -- because he used
his seat belt -- survived a potentially fatal crash.
That wasn't always the case. Just a week earlier, that man, Josh Ilg, had received a citation
for not wearing his seatbelt. I was going down a pretty curvy downhill road
-- it was raining a little bit.
As I got to the bottom of the hill to make the last bend, my vehicle lost all of its
control and went into the ditch.
The same police officer that gave me the ticket, showed up to my accident.
I'm 100 percent certain that I probably would've gone through the front windshield of my vehicle
and I would've been seriously injured.
I had a few little minor bumps and bruises, but nothing serious. I got out of the truck
and I was up walking around -- just a little shaken-up.
Last year, 746 people died on Kentucky's roads -- more than half were not wearing seatbelts.
If you don't currently buckle-up, why not follow Josh's example and start? Who knows
-- maybe you or a loved one -- will be saved by the belt.
