MATT CAIL: Hi, I'm Matt Cail. And on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to be providing
you with tips to make your travel a lot easier this holiday season. Another travelling tip
is asking yourself whether or not you're going to need to fly. Having to go to the airport
flying and getting picked up from the airport adds an additional layer of complexity. If
you don't have to fly to get home for Thanksgiving, good for you; if you do, there're a couple
of things you're going to be wanting to keep in mind. First of all, you're going to want
to make sure you can get plane tickets. By plane tickets, I mean allowing 60 to 90 days.
Gone are the days where you can get tickets at the last minute or at least rely on that
to get you through. Nowadays, the planes that are travelling through the air, there're a
lot fewer of them than there used to be. The services are much more concentrated. What
does that mean? It means fewer available tickets at the last minute, and it also means that
if you wait longer, the odds of a transfer are going to crop up. What do you think the
risk of a delay is at the airport? Well, multiply that risk, whatever it is, by two. Whenever
you have a transfer, whenever you have to go from point A to point B to point C, then
you have problems. You have three airports involved now. You can have a delay at any
of those points and it messes you up, as opposed to just having one flight. Being able to get
non-stop flights is much more likely if you allow 60 to 90 days to get tickets. Again,
give yourself enough time, plan ahead. Going back to the first tip, the more time you give
yourself, the better in all aspects of this, especially when you're flying.
