bjbj Through our research and travels, a color that stood out most was blue, and the range
of blues observed. Over the past few years, blues has always played a role, but not as
major as what we're seeing. From cyan to indigo to grayed blues, this hue takes on many looks
and moods, making it a key directional color. Last year, we started to see more of the blues,
particularly in blue greens, teal, and turquoise. This trend is continuing, with its fresh or
even watery look. Here, an upholstered wall in a beautiful teal acts as artwork against
this bed, with turquoise repeated with a throw and pillow. Some people may have reservations
using this color, as it may bring back memories of the 80's and early 90's, but since this
color has been dormant for many years, it emerges with renewed interest. Moving into
the turquoise range, Karem Rasheed Rasenkal shows asymmetrical pieces with soft, rounded
edges in tone on tone upholstery. We like the choice to pair it with the deep red orange
ottoman. Brighter turquoise in leather makes up the upholstered frame and arm of this sofa.
The sofa fabric complements the leather with a soft turquoise print. We're tracking in
the interest in minerals, with its amazing colors and patterns that occur naturally as
seen here with the shower treatment by using the section of a mineral slab for the unique
shower. The mid-tone blues in this range were use alone or in monochromatic color schemes,
such as this example from Cartel. Here, an acrylic blue frame with cushions and a lighter
blue gives a monochromatic look, or in this example of a molded plastic chair that is
also a mid-tone blue. But here, we see the color become more toned. This is a good bridge
to some of the muted or grayed blues. Again, this coffee table by Krizalded Studio is muted
and a soft blue, with each section being a different shade, and through its modularity,
it can be arranged to work in any space. A sofa detail in a soft washed blue with navy
blue exposed stitching reveals a trend where we see the idea of elements being exposed,
drawing attention to something that is normally hidden. In contrast to the grayed blues, many
royal blues and inky blue or indigo were used in fabrics or upholstery. This hue has a strong
purple quality, which adds to its overall richness. Other applications are playful,
such as in this bench. Here's a piece that caught our eye, first through the vibrant,
almost electric blue, but also in its use of reclaimed materials. Here, old mattresses
were deconstructed, with the springs becoming the seat covered with bright poofs of yarn.
