Hey everyone, this is Nathaniel from TCpk. And uhh, today I'm just going to reviewing some shoes, basically since the time that I
started doing parkour to now. Pros, cons, what you should look for when you're getting your shoe. Stuff like that.
So let's just get started.
So, this is basically the first pair of shoe that I got specifically for parkour. Not the best to be honest, for what I was looking for
not the best. As you can see, these things are not very flexible. You've got to try pretty hard to get those... In therms of lateral
flexibility, there's basically none. They're heavy; sure they absorb impact but that encourages bad form anyway. So really, all in all
not the best shoe. If you were looking for a cross-trainer or something like that. Something heavy so that you can, you know.
Then this is fine, but for parkour, no. And freerunning, don't even go there.
There's actually another shoe that I had before I got these ones. But it's basically the same thing so it's not really a big deal.
And I couldn't find them.
Alright so, this shoe is a good shoe, not a lot of padding in the back. I don't know if you can see that; not a lot of padding.
Which is good, because I mean, you know, it's good. You'd end up hurting your knees involuntarily .
Good shoe, the only problem I really had with them (other than the fact that they break pretty easy) is that, as you can see on the
bottom; up here where your foot would be, extends past the rubber on both sides. So stability isn't quite there. So maybe
if you land and you're landing a little bit offside, there's more a chance of you rolling your foot. Good shoe though!
Alright, then I got these. I mean, I though I was rolling my ankle and it wasn't the shoe's fault. So, you know, I got some good old
Converse here. Now this is actually a surprisingly good shoe for parkour. You wouldn't think it, you look at them and you say...
"Wow, I mean that's just, you know, that's not a parkour shoe, what are you talking about?"
But it was a really shoe, the only problem with these is that there's not a lot of traction, which is too bad.
But other than that, I mean these have great ankle support, they didn't absorb too much impact which was good, they fit your foot
pretty snug. Yeah, this is a good shoe to get, yeah, it's a good shoe.
Alright, but then I started looking and saying "You know what I want a specialized shoe, something that's made for parkour."
So, I went out, and got these shipped from California, The FiveTen Freerunner, which was a good shoe. But once again, like
I was saying, the padding, there is a lot of padding on this, like... I mean that's great but, definitely encourages really bad form
Good shoe. Really good shoe. I would say it was worth it, definitely worth it. The tread on the bottom, it's worn down now,
but you can see it, it's pretty much all worn down. But, the good thing about this shoe is, a lot of show makers, when they're
making the rubber for the bottom, they make the rubber so that when it gets dirty, covered in dirt, it will stick better. But, to me that
never really made sense because the dirt actually creates a layer between the shoe and the ground, so it doesn't really make sense
why they would make rubber... Anyway, so what these guys did is they would actually make it so that when it got wet (and high
friction), it sticks, this thing... If you go out running when it's wet, you are never going to going to have a problem of slipping.
It's incredible, absolutely incredible. And all FiveTen's are like that, so you don't just have to get this shoe for it to be like that.
Great shoe, I must say! Only problem I have with them is the laces. Laces and padding, that was... I mean they said that they
made the laces so that they would never really come undone. I ended up tying them more than any other shoe.
Maybe that's just me, I don't know. Maybe I got defective laces, I don't know.
Alright, I think I actually got a couple other shoes in between these ones (sandals, hiking, etc.) but these ones were really
athletic shoes, so I got these.
A great pair of shoes, I must say! Livestrong, these things are the lightest pair of shoes I have ever had!
Like, these are lighter than the Puma', alright? That's...that's just crazy.
Yeah, I can't really think of a complaint for these, except for the padding once again.
Look for something with less padding than this. These shoes, the grip on them is awesome!
They tie tight, they fit your foot well, they are super flexible. I can bend this up really easily.
I can bend it both ways, not just one, so you know, that's really nice.
Yeah.
It breathes well, nice mesh on it.
In terms of how quickly they wear out, mine have lasted me for probably about a year and half now (only 1 year actually).
No problems.
I think, I think only issue with them right now...
is uhh...
I can't find it, but on one of the laces I guess I clipped it on a fence and it started to tear apart, but it's not really a big deal.
Just don't pull it and you'll be fine.
A buddy of mine, got basically the same pair of shoes as mine. He didn't get the Livestrong ones, but he's got the Nike which is
the same thing really. The way that he runs, his toe drags across his heel so those are starting to wear out quicker than mine.
Which is unfortunate for him. But yeah, this is a great shoe, it really is.
Yeah, I'm actually going to be getting a new pair of shoes soon, I don't know how soon. Maybe a month, maybe a month and a half.
And I will review those when I get them.
Yeah.
So, yeah, things to look for in a shoe! Look for some really good grip on the bottom. You want some good grip, you really do.
You don't want too much padding on the bottom. I mean, I'm sure you've heard it before that your foot works like a spring.
When you go down, you're supposed to hit the toe, and then the impact goes up the foot and your ankle absorbs it, and then works
like a spring and a cushion to propel yourself back up. but when you have thick heeled shoes, it encourages you to run like this
Which, all the impact hit the heel and goes straight up your leg into your knee and your hip, which will cause issues later on.
In fact, I'm already feeling the issues now, so yeah, try to find something will less padding than this.
If you can find something with ankle support that's great, but I mean, really, you only need that if you have bad ankles.
Something that's breathable. Athlete's foot is always an issue, your feet get wet with sweat or water and if the moisture can't
escape, it stays on your foot and allows fungus to grow, which is gross but it happens.
So look for something with preferably mesh on top so that that moisture can escape out of the shoe.
It also makes it smell... less bad.
Yeah, that's pretty much it. If you have any questions, post a comment, down there. And subscribe for more videos, and yeah!
What can I say.
