- Now, we have Sir Christus and Jonne Aaron as our guests. It's rare to get this close to 'Sir Christus' himself. Welcome guys.
SIR: Thanks a lot. *Jonne repeats it.*
- We had Jorma Kääriäinen as our guest last week and he praised your atmosphere. Which Finnish classic song would you like to record yourself?
JONNE: I wonder what it would be. It'd probably be some song by Irwin. - Hey," Rentun ruusu" (Bum's Rose)! Yes!
JONNE: Or Ei tippa tapa (A Drop Doesn't Kill You). Maybe that one.
- The video of "Rentun ruusu" by Irwin is legendary, he's lying in the tub and swishing the roses, or willowherbs. JONNE: Is it a real music video?
- Yeah, they've made one of it. Maybe it's a "music video". JONNE: I don't remember that one, I've been so little back then.
SIR: "Vanha juoppo" (An Old Wino) by Irwin is a less famous song. I'd like to record it someday but I don't know if you feel the same.
JONNE: I think that it would be quite strong interpreted by you.
- Jonne, is it possible that we'll hear songs by Agents interpreted by you someday? JONNE: Possibly. Why not, why not. - We're doubting this. JONNE: If they invited me to, I could even consider it.
- The amount of Jorma's hype was limitless. SIR: Greetings to Jorma.
JONNE: We feel respect towards him too. SIR: Yes. He's a tough guy and all the players are tough, Pulliainen included, or were there even two of them?
- At this point, I want to offer you matches and these should be put in your mouths because once, Sylvester Stallone realized in the movie called Cobra that it's incredibly cool to put matches in one's mouth. It gives you a street credible feeling right away, doesn't it?
SIR: Let me show you some more street credibility. - Whoa! - They don't show this in the music video called Elohopeaa (Mercury) by Smak.
- Sir Christus and Jonne Aaron from Negative are visiting the list show. The title of your first album was War Of Love, after that came out Sweet & Deceitful and now Anorectic. What does this name refer to?
JONNE: It's some crystallizing of the journey we've walked together. We had to find a simple and thought-provoking title for the strong album and in my opinion that name works for that pretty well.
- What kind of thoughts do you get in your mind about the word 'Anorectic'? The clown in the cover of the album is quite sturdy.
JONNE: There is a deeper meaning behind it but I think that it will come clear to each listener and citizen when they listen to the album with concentration and examine the lyrics a bit more deeply. The meaning pops up from between the lines.
- Who dares to take the merit of this title? Who came up with it?
JONNE: I dug it up from some depths of my mind in the wee hours of the morning. Then I mentioned it to the guys in the rehearsal place and I guess you were a bit astonished about it too, like "what the ***?"
SIR: It was a bit like "hmm".
JONNE: And at first, the recording label was against that title but then we refused to negotiate. In my opinion, it goes like that in general, if you have some vision of your own, and as a band we've always had a strong vision about where we're leading this ship to, then it's worthwhile to hold on to the vision.
- You mentioned a ship. Bon Jovi has once compared rock life also to circus, and so have you. What does it mean when rock life is one big circus?
JONNE: The caravan is on the road and we take the gang from one city to another and the landscape changes and we perform a show day after day. It's quite a thin line.
We've been pondering over the actual meaning of 'circus', wondering if we're the monkeys and who's the hairy woman.
- Right! Who's the hairy woman and who's the bruiser? Would Christus be the bruiser? JONNE: I think that our drummer called Slammer is the bruiser.
SIR: Yeah, and I and Larry are probably the monkeys and... I don't know. The knives have been flying somewhere... JONNE: In the tourbus.
SIR: ... and we've balanced on the twine and stuff. So this can quite obviously be compared to circus stuff.
JONNE: Circus has always been fascinating as a theme. Since childhood, it's been damn scary and otherwise, too, like Pelle Hermanni (a Finnish children's show). When the nose dropped, it made me cry every time. Maybe we're drawing on the traumas of childhood.
- Yes, Kepakko (a talking stick) was very scary when it arrived, and Miss fortune-teller called Sylvia, and especially Äitiliini (the mother) as she was always a bit grumpy.
JONNE: So, there's some respect to Pelle Hermanni, too, on the album. To this deceased actor.
- Yeah, clearly. You've been kinda busy lately, like one can guess. What is the thing the rocker man longs for the most in the middle of all that hurrying?
JONNE: Hmm, I wonder what one longs for. One isn't really able to long for anything.
SIR: Maybe getting to the stage. The performing part is a very small part of the day and one feels like doing it again and...
JONNE: You're on the stage 1,5 hours a day and sometimes it feels like everything else around it sucks. Then you try to create yourself an inner rhythm and a routine about that kind of things.
For example, we have our own catering service touring with us. We've tended to forget about eating. For example, when you wake up and go to have breakfast and eat it...
- Healthy lifestyle. JONNE: Yeah! And you go through the interviews. The touring is made of routines like that. You don't really have the time to long for anything.
- You were touring with HIM and The Rasmus in Europe some time ago. Whose TV flew the longest from the hotel room window?
JONNE: We didn't have a contest of throwing TVs on that tour. About the tour, I have to say that we had hell of a fun time and we got warm memories about it and it was a memorable trip to all of the bands for sure. We had one day off, where was it...
SIR: I don't remember where it was. JONNE: Was it in Cologne? I guess it was in Cologne. The boys of HIM rented us our own bar there and that's where we had fun then.
- I can see that Christus starts to laugh when you reminisce about it. I guess it was a long night. SIR: I don't remember anything about that, either. That's the point.
- You had nice time. JONNE: Yeah, yeah. SIR: Yeah we did, but our band took it kinda easy. It was like "let's try to get through this respectably."
- When was the last time you had the feeling that love is "big *** love". When it hit so hard that one can talk about "big *** love".
JONNE: It's been a few years since that. It's more or less present all the time, of course, but it depends on what it's felt towards and where you get the feedback from.
SIR: There are many kinds of love, of course. One can love many things and many people in many ways.
JONNE: And without it, a human being would die while he's alive.
- The Crash and Big *** Love. So, Jonne Aaron from Negative. A revolver is being pointed at your head, answer in a spontaneously uncontrolled manner. Are you ready?
JONNE: I think so. - What inspires you, Jonne? JONNE: Autumn.
- End this sentence: "the most important thing about rock is ---" JONNE: Passion.
- Who's the person you admire and would like to go to the sauna with? JONNE: Erm... Matti Nykänen.
- If you were a superhero, which superhero would you be and why? JONNE: Super Goof.
- Why? JONNE: Because he gets to eat nuts and they make you feel *** good. I'm allergic to them myself, I can't eat them.
- What would you rescue from your home that's on fire? JONNE: The albums that have sold gold.
- You're dancing to a lovely slow song cheek to cheek with the girl you love. Which song is playing in the background? JONNE: Erm... "Paradise" by Rauli Badding Somerjoki.
- Jonne Aaron, Axl, Tommy Lee and Blackie Lawless had a fight. Who won? JONNE: I did.
- Where will you be in ten years? JONNE: On a world tour or six feet under the ground.
- Which position is Negative in on the list this week? JONNE: #1
- #1. It's time to continue with the list, now we'll find out. Go on, Marja.
- This week, Finland's official album chart is amazing. This week, 5 Finnish novelties debut on the list. *she reads the list* And all we can do is to find out that Jonne was right. Negative's album called Anorectic is the #1 of Finland's official album chart.
- Yay, congratulations guys! - How are you feeling now? JONNE: Good as hell. SIR: Quite good, yeah.
- Are you already used to being the #1? JONNE: #1 is always #1. SIR: #1 isn't #2.
- How will you celebrate this? JONNE: We've been talking that if this album will be #1, we'll sell gold apparently at these moments, then we'll combine the wild happy party. It's... SIR: It'll be cheaper.
- One party rather than two. - We'll see your video called Planet of the Sun soon. Will you tell us a little about the making of the video?
JONNE: It was filmed in München. The day was hot as hell and we had to wake up early in the morning like we usually do when we're gonna shoot a video. We had a long day, from 6:30 in the morning until 2 a.m.
We filmed it in a circus tent and circus environment. It was quite interesting. It was one of Europe's oldest circuses that still tour. It was an over-100-year-old circus.
We wanted the lay-out and the album cover and the music and the video and all to go hand in hand and that's why we ended up in the circus. It was fun as hell.
SIR: In the middle of the shooting, Larry was taken away in a stretcher to get some... JONNE: He got dehydrated. Controlled substances weren't involved.
- It was a hot tent, I understand. - It seems to be more like a rule than an exception that shooting music videos means working around the clock.
Like in this video, too. From the top of Finland's official album chart, Negative. The title of the album is Anorectic and here's the video called Planet of the Sun.
