I went to the doctor the other day and I said, "Doctor, it really hurts when I do that." And the
doctor said, "Well, don't do it then." Well, that's an old Tommy Cooper joke/lesson, but the
reason for sharing that with you today is that I've just been listening to stuff on the radio that says a
lot of creative people, comedians in particular, suffer from a lot of the brain traits of people who
have mental illnesses, specifically psychosis.
And one of the similarities between comedians and people with psychosis is that their view of the
world, their take on the world, is slightly different from most "normal people". And I think
entrepreneurs are quite similar. If you're an entrepreneur and you therefore take a different view of
the world to most people who do the standard route of going to school and getting job, then you're
probably likely to think outside of the box. Otherwise, you won't be successful.
So therefore, you're probably more susceptible to mood swings- and getting shouted at by ducks,
sorry about that- mood swings and stuff that "normal people" don't go through. But, that's
important because like the person that goes to the doctor and says every time I do that it hurts, yes,
if you do the same things in your business over and over again, then you're going to get the same
result, aren't you?
Being an entrepreneur is all about thinking outside the box and trying different things, and having a
go until you find something that doesn't hurt and is successful. So, the overall point of this video, I
guess, is that if you're entrepreneur, recognize that you're different. You're not normal. That's not
bad. That's, in fact, necessary to be successful in your business.
And the price of that might be that you have ups and downs in your life. It might be that sometimes
you get depression. It might be sometimes you get elation. It might be sometimes that you're lonely,
or you have all of those other kind of positive and negative out of the box type emotions that many
"normal people" don't have. But then, they don't also have the great big highs that you have when
you're successful.
So, stick in there! It's okay to be bonkers! There's plenty of us out here!
