Hi! This is Rich Buccola here in New York City and today on behalf of Expert Village,
I'm going to show you how to make French onion soup. We're back and we're going to do utensils,
simple utensils. Again, what's great about French onion soup is it's fast, fresh, and
it's easy, but it look like you took a lot of time to make it. As far as your utensils,
you're going to need a good chopping knife to cut up our onion, garlic and such. Get
a little cutting board. I have these little plastic silicon cutting boards that are great
to work with. Can opener to open up your can, a corkscrew to open up your wine. Simple things
you should have in your kitchen of course. Measuring cups and measuring spoons so we
can get the right amount. I like to eyeball this. I just think that if you're new in the
kitchen, you should have this stuff. As you get to make more and more things, you'll see
cooking by eye. You'll get a knack for it and it'll happen. There's 2 different ways
you can serve this. You can serve an individual bowl like this, but you've got to make sure
it's oven safe. Don't put something like this in your oven and then find out it breaks.
Make sure it's oven safe. What you're going to do is put it in your broiler. You're going
to top off the soup and then that beautiful cheese. We're going to melt it so it's nice
brown and golden. Or you can use a Corningware, which serves 2 people or whatever. The bigger
you want to use it, and you can just put the whole thing out and let them serve themselves
like that. Those are your utensils. Real simple, but don't forget it's all going to be put
in a nice big pot. Get yourself a nice big soup pot or a saucepot, because we're going
to make some French onion soup. It's cold, it's winter, and it's good in the winter.
Comfort food.
