Hello this is Rob Rubin and you're watching Expert Village. Hey, I've got my suitcase
out and that's not because I'm going on vacation, I just want to show you something, that is
traveling with your paintball gear. This show is current with 2007 and if it is a lot later
than that then you might want to check the rules again but under current rules the TSA
it does not require that these be held up to the same standards as firearms. Paintball
markers can be traveled with without a hard case, without a marking case. You can literally
throw it in your normal clothing suitcase and you are good to go but do so intelligently.
What I recommend that you do is do not travel with this looking like a paintball marker.
Take the barrel off of the front of it, stow the barrel separately, take the hopper off
of it and stow the hopper separately and just pack it in your luggage. When you are traveling
with your goggles you have got to be extra cautious and you don't want anything to scratch
it so put your goggles in a goggle bag and if you are really paranoid about it take your
arm pads and your elbow pads and stuff them on the inside and stuff some T-shirts on the
outside of the lens so that the lens is protected and then just put it in your suitcase. Now
for the big one, air tanks. Yes it is legal to fly with an air tank in the United States
under current TSA rules but you have to do one thing to your air tank and that is to
make them safe by being able to remove the valve. The valve on some air tanks should
come right off like this. The reason is they want to inspect the inside of the air tank
to make sure you are not carrying anything in there. Also with the valve off of it there
is no pressure so there is no danger in flying with this. You can actually buy air tanks
that have removable valves or if you know of a qualified air smith you can have a qualified
air smith remove the valve from your tank. If you don't know what you're doing, do not
remove the air valve from your tank. Don't do it. There are some air tanks that you cannot
remove the air valve from at all. If you have any doubts, don't do it yourself seek a qualified
air smith. Since I am thinking about it, if you take the regulator off of your air tank
too many times and put it back on you can actually compromise the threads inside your
regular or the threads inside your air tank so don't do this too often. When you are flying
with an air tank you can either take it with you as carry on or you can check it into your
luggage. If you check it into your luggage what I recommend that you do is you declare
at the gate that you have paintball equipment in your luggage and tell them that there is
an air tank with the regulator removed at the check in counter. You don't have to do
this, at least that is what the law says but it is a lot easier on you and a lot smoother
for you if you just tell them up front hey, I've got paintball gear in there but don't
use the G word, never use the G word and by that I mean gun, that tends to make TSA people
very very paranoid.
