This is the 3rd year of the IDC's hosting the local authorities in Israel conference
It is a joint conference between the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy & Strategy and the Center for Local Government
Bringing together local mayors, and central government officials to discuss pertinent current events.
Here at the 3rd local authorities in Israel conference, we decided that because the IDC is committed to improving the quality of life in Israel and the governance system as a whole
to also focus on local government
One of our most serious commitments is towards the community
Commitment to citizens, and the connection between academia and authorities.
What is important is to change the system of government correctly,
and in this matter, it must be addressed cautiously.
Careless action can, on one hand, harm Parliamentary control,
but a lesser method will not cure things.
Therefore, it is not enough to just toss slogans around,
but to engage in serious, professional work. This is what we've done.
One of the important goals that this conference placed upon itself was to bring together the local government leaders and representatives of the central government,
to create an efficient dialogue between them.
We have changed over the last four years from competitors to friends.
We have opened a true dialogue between the central government, the Minister of Finance's office,
the local government centers, the mayors, and heads of councils.
Firstly, we are meeting here mayors from all over, that don't always have the opportunity to get together,
Secondly, mayors learn from this type of conference, as they hear panels from professionals
who discuss finances, real estate, and many interesting topics.
Thirdly, this is a good opportunity to meet government officials and those associated with local governments.
This is also a chance to say that a conference like this sends a message that local governments and academia go together.
This is a chance for the mayors and heads of council to hear from everyone and to work for their residents.
This is a platform for exchanging messages and information, for networking,
Government officials, finance ministers, and fellow colleagues in local government all come here
I personally, came to speak about ICT defense, and changing the practices of the local and central governments.
This is the correct and important place for conferences, the fact that happening for the third time shows its additional value.
The discussions, specifically in the meeting rooms , the mingling in the hallways, the discussions prior to and follow ups afterwards, show
there is no doubt that it is a very valuable meeting point, and we need to preserve it.
The local governments make up the country, and the citizens of all of Israel.
At the end of the day, the local governments' mechanisms are extensions of the central government, in everything.
The infrastructure, the water, the education, the welfare, the shelters,
All of the components that people need that, at the end of the day, are provided for by the local governments.
This year, the conference is occurring in the shadow of the elections, which intensifies the importance of the dialogue between local and central governments,
therefore, the conference's content was focused on this.
We are in a political atmosphere, not only to speak about changing the system, but to discuss a proper switch in method that will bring about a change,
a historical change in Israeli society. Good luck to all.
