It’s been awhile, I’m not nervous, whatever! Okay hey, a couple people wrote in and mentioned
in comments on Facebook or my blog and mentioned you are interested in knowing what products
I use in my faux hawk and how I style it. So I am doing a Whippy video on how I style
my hair in a faux hawk, and which products I use. So I just washed my hair, and before
I blow dried it I prepped it with small talk by bed head which adds thickness to it because
I have really thin hair. I also put in some rockoholic shine blaster, this acts as a perfect
barrier for hot tools and hot iron. So I blow dried the sides and the back going down and
forward. Then I blow dried the top going up and back, like that. Then when I was all the
way done blow drying it, I put another layer while my hair was still warm, I put After
party by Bed head, what this does is when your hair is hot, when your cuticles open
up on your hair shaft, and you put the product on and your hair cools down it shrinks back
down and basically just makes the ends of your hair look smoother and your hair shaft
is able to absorb product to help with the heat. So after I put the after party on it,
I am going to flat iron the sides. I have a rat tail comb, and some clips to help me
style my hair. So I am going to work the sides first and I will focus on the top. So I am
going to clip this back to get it out of the way. The front is kind of already going forward
the way I like it so I am going to work on the back. Keep in mind I don’t have a mirror
so I can’t see what I’m doing. But I’m just adding a little bit of a curl, and I
am turning all in the same direction so it looks like the hair flows. And I will just
continue that throughout the back, and my hair is a little bit longer than I am use
to so it is probably going to be a little trickier to do this style the longer the hair
gets. But luckily with the help of product I can get anything to stay. Once again I am
curling it towards the front. If you are not comfortable curling with the flat iron you
are totally welcome to use a curling iron, I am just too lazy to go find mine. I think
that is good for now, if I want to touch up the sides in a minute I will. I don’t know
if
you can see what I am doing with the flat iron, but basically I am starting the flat
iron at the base of my hair and you can see as I’m curling I am pulling the hair towards
the front and that is what gets the hair to flow in the same direction. Now we can do
the front. For the sake of being able to see better, I am going to start from the back.
So I have the back section of my hair curling under and going towards the front and then
right here we are actually going to completely change the direction. So grab a big chunk
of hair and curl it this way. And I am going to curl it as tightly as I can. So starting
at the base of my hair and going forward. You can hairspray it at this point or all
at the end. So I basically just do that and work my way towards ter front. And I will
give you a hint, if you over direct your hair this way it will give you hair a little bit
of a lift at the base, so I am heavily over directing the curl. Then when I come to this
die, I am going to curl the other direction so the curls go towards each other. So, again
my bangs are really long and I need to cut them. These pieces, instead of curling my
flat iron towards my face I am actually going to curl them and go that way because I want
them out of my face. Now to make it constituent, my sides feel really straight compared to
everything else, I am just going to add a tiny bit of curl to a few pieces, not all
of it. if you have straight hair, the product is what makes this hairstyle work and stay.
Otherwise, this would just fall in minutes. So, starting at the base and working up, I use two different
brands. There is powder play by big sexy hair or Aveda’s hair potion. This potion is a
powder, so you dust this powder on your roots and it creates a grit, and the grit in the
roots allows the hair to build upon itself to add volume and lift. I am going to dust
my hair. So once I have all the product in there, I rub it around so it’s even and
there is no chunks or clumpy chunks of product. You can kind of feel how this is super silky
smooth and this is a little bit gritty. Trust your hands more than your eyes sometimes.
Also, what you can use on your roots is a pomade or a wax of some sort. I like the bed
head blue manipulator a lot. Or I like this peace out pliable wax in a moose form. I only
need a tiny bit because of my short hair. I am going to smear it on my fingertips and
work it in staring at the roots. We are basically adding texture to the hair so it will stay,
because I like my hairstyles to last at least a couple days. And this product I like again
because it is not quite as oily as the blue manipulator and it’s a little bit grittier.
So I feel like it has a little bit more texture, but I like them both. Then I go to my spray
wax, and as you know I use a lot of kinds because I love them all, there’s lanza spray
wax, Paul Mitchel, or short sexy hair has one. These three are all very different. This
one is a lot more gritty and heavy. This one is really fine and tends to be a little bit
oilier if you use it several days in a row, and this one is just right. So I am probably
just going to use this one because this is first day hair and I need as much texture
as I can get. I love spray wax because there is no memory in it, hairspray when you spray
it it is crispy and when you brush that crispy out, then basically all the hold is gone.
This has no air memory. I can spray this now and have it go this way and five minutes later
I can come back and have it go this way and it’s not a problem because it never dries
and doesn’t get hard and stays pliable. Last product, is hairspray. Any hairspray
goes. They are almost all the same to me. I do like hard clay for the much heavier looks
or if you live in a town that is really windy or you do a lot of activates where you are
messing with your hair. Or if you just stay at home, they make one called fun times, which
is a light hold hairspray. I am going to go with this one. You’re are just making a
product cocktail in your hair. Something about mixing this after spray wax kind of keeps
this hairspray pliable. But it also adds a little bit more hold than the spray wax has
to offer. So that is a lot of product. It is worth investing in because now my hair
is good to go. And you can do a lot with it. You can have it flip and wave if you want.
It will do a lot more for you. Whatever you want. It goes right back however you styled
it. Hopefully that answered your question. Lots of product, I will list them all below
or in the blog post if you go to whippycake.com. But it’s a great style that lasts lots of
days and is really fun. I hope you guys enjoyed it.
