I will be the first one to graduate from college in my family.
So I went to Parkman Middle School. I was supposed to go to a middle school in L.A.,
but it was overcrowded, so that's why they
bussed me out to the valley to Parkman Middle School.
From there I went over to Taft High School. So at Taft, I was in a small learning community
called Humanitas. So their focus, their entire focus, was on
students being prepared to apply for college. So I thought it was normal to apply to college.
So I applied to CSUN, and I got in. I took an introductory course for
Central American Studies in 2009. Spring. And I didn't know any of the history
of Central America, and my parents are from Central America.
My mom is from Guatemala, and my dad is from El Salvador.
So I didn't know the history of those two countries or of Central America in general.
So I took the course, and I liked the subject, so I decided to add Central American Studies
as a double major, and it has been great.
I've learned a lot about Central America. I think I know more about Central America
than my parents. And I chose multimedia because I liked
what they had to offer. Meeting the professors I have, that's
one of the biggest things that have impacted my life.
Meeting the professors here, getting to know them, having a relationship with them.
Meeting the professors here was great. Some family members use me as a role model
for their own chidden. So they want their children to go to college
as I am and to graduate college like I am. So they use me as a role model.
