That's the nature in which I am using this word. There is a Zen aspect to this. There's
a zone that you can get into the same way that you can get into a zone with any physical
movement, a sport. You can get into a zone. You can get into a Zen aspect with a sport.
So, it has that similarity, but what you don't have and isn't Zen is to lose consciousness.
OK. I think especially with calligraphy, because for the most part you're spelling out words
you really have to be very balanced in terms of the way you're using your brain; the right
and left hemisphere of the brain. It's like the right hemisphere of your brain in used
for understanding and special relationships and getting your kinetic, kinesthetic stuff
going right. The left side of your brain is more logical. It has to do with your logical
thinking and also has to do with spelling. So, if you want to spell something right you
have to make sure that you're still in the left side of your brain, but if you want it
to come out looking beautiful you have to make sure that you're still using the right
side of your brain. So, what does calligraphy take? It takes the whole brain. It's a whole
brain, whole body experience. So, there's the alphabet, the Roman alphabet. I hope that
you find it as beautiful as I do.
