This video shows how to run a regression in EViews. I'm using EViews 7 student edition.
The process will be the same, or very similar no matter which version of EViews you have.
I have already brought the data in. This is just some sample data. You can look online
if you are not familiar with how to bring data into EViews. You're going to click "quick"
and selection "estimate equation". This is where you're going to type in your variables.
The first one is your dependent variable. It's what you're testing. So for this example
here we'll put the GDP. The next thing you want to type is the letter "c". That's the
constant term. Don't forget to do that, that's very important. It looks like something that
doesn't matter, but you need to always include that. And next are your independent variables.
However many you have, and for this example let's put Consumer Price Index, and M1 Money.
And you click OK. And that gets you your results. That is one way to do it. If you're just working
on a project and want to get it kicked out, you can stop the video right here. But I will
show you the other way to do it through the command line. If you click in the box there.
LS for least squares. You're goitng to type in your dependent, GDP. That letter "c" again.
And your independent variables no matter how many you have. We've got two here. Push "enter"
and that gets you the same results as going through the menus. Whichever one you prefer.
If you're doing a presentation in front of a class, typing in the command line will freak,
like, half the class out, but it might get you some respect from the professor because
it shows you have a better grasp of what's going on than somebody who clicks menus and
such. But that's it for the video. How to run a regression in EViews.
