For those who care to do it themselves and want to come to our location at
31581 East 128th Avenue, Commerce City, we're at the very end of 128th
Avenue, just north, northeast of DIA. We have a lot of people that come to
our farm and want to pick it up fresh. Our grass that you, when you show
up at our farm, at our office where we're located, that grass is never old,
is never kept over any extended period of time. Most times you may have to
wait a few seconds while we're actually harvesting it in the fields and
bringing it to you. In doing so, a lot of people show up and don't
understand how heavy it can be.
Depending on the moisture content, or the time of year when one may have to
cut a little thicker or thinner, each roll can weigh between 40 and 60
pounds, so a full pallet, which is 540 square feet, can weigh between
2,500 and 3,000 pounds, so the rule of thumb is a half ton pickup truck
will haul one pallet of sod, 540 square feet. A three-quarter ton you can
get 750 square feet. If you're looking to get two pallets or more, over a
1,000 square feet, then you need a four-wheel trailer to put it on. And
then you can imagine as you go up, if you ask more than that, you really
ought to ask us about our delivery, then it becomes on our sliding scale of
just pure economics, it might be more feasible if you do not have a goose-
neck trailer or a truck to haul it yourself, to let us deliver it for you.
But those are some of the things.
Some people will show up in a car and expect to get a pallet of grass in,
and it's just not going to happen. They may get 15 or 20 rolls in the
trunk and that's about it, and then they drive off. But we're always
there, and we're willing to advise you if you show up with the wrong thing.
We take great care as to not harm your vehicle that you show up in, so if
you don't get all that you want, then that's, well, please don't get mad at
us, we'll be glad to accommodate you in any way we can.
