In this video, we are going to show you how to open a door or window sensor.
There are two main types of door or window sensors for your GE wireless
Security System.
A Micro Sensor and a Crystal Sensor.
Each are made up of two parts: the sensor and the magnet.
The sensor is the larger part of the two and the magnet is the thinner or smaller part.
To open your micro sensor, you will need a small flat head screw driver. Take the
sensor itself and flip it over.
Insert the screwdriver and pry the body of the sensor out of the case by using
the two slots on the side.
It will take several times to loosen the sensor fully.
Take the sensor out of the casing. You can now either change the battery,
make sure it is fully inserted, or perform any other task you needed to. If the
green circuit board comes off of the back casing, gently place the board back
into place.
This is not uncommon and the sensor will still work when this happens.
Once you're finished, place the top cover back on and press on both sides. You will
hear a couple of clean snaps that will indicate the sensor is fully closed.
If your sensor is already mounted on the wall, look for a small slot on one end of
the sensor.
Gently placed the small flat head screw driver into the slot and twist.
The case should open slightly. Do the same around the entire case in order to
slowly but surely open up the sensor. Be gentle when doing this.
Again, now is the time to do any task you need to with the sensor open.
When you are done, make sure the board is secure on the back casing and then
replace the front cover. Line up the notch on the top cover with the tab on the
back cover
and gently snap the cover back on.
Press firmly to make sure the sensor is secure.
To open the magnet part of the sensor, look for a small slot on one end. Press
straight into the sensor with the screwdriver against the tab that is
currently in the slot until the casing pops open.
Gently open the sensor all the way.
Inside the shell we will see the magnet to one side. The middle of this magnet should be
in line with the alignment arrow on the outside of the casing.
To close the magnet back up,
simply press the casing back into place and listen for the snap. Press firmly to
make sure the magnet is fully closed and is secure on the door or window.
To open a crystal door or window sensor take the sensor and press either side
of the casing holding the back in place.
Put pressure on the top of the case as close to the plastic outlet as you can.
Pull the case off of the sensor.
If you look at the top cover, you will see the plaster latch that we pushed down to
open the sensor.
Here is the sensor itself.
Here is the spring that toggles to notify the panel if the sensor is open or
closed. Be sure not to lose this spring when the sensor is open.
Here we have the 3.6 Volt battery used to power the sensor.
When you are done with anything you need to do to the sensor, replace the top
cover by slipping the opposite end onto the securing notch and pressing down on
the latch. Listen for a snap to know that the sensor is securely closed.
If the crystal sensor is already placed on a door or window,
open the sensor in the exact same manner.
Be firm and gentle when opening sensors.
Always make sure that the case is fully close to avoid a system error known as
"Tamper". You now know how to open crystal and micro sensors as well as the magnet
part of each device.
