- Ferrari proved to be competitive in difficult conditions.
But it was a positive weekend, given that Alonso left the two Red Bulls behind him,
or was it a missed opportunity given that Lewis Hamilton won?
- No, it was definitely positive, because on a track like this,
with the low temperatures, we had a few fears about overall performance.
Therefore, I am very happy because we have proved to be very competitive.
In the end, the race was played out over a problem we are aware of,
namely the warm up of the tyres which was harder
than usual in these conditions.
It’s easy to say with hindsight but if the conditions had been a bit warmer,
the result would probably have been inverted.
So, I am happy, because let’s not forget that in the last few races,
Fernando is the driver who has scored more points than anyone.
That means the car is back to being competitive in all conditions
and that should be a further boost for everyone to keep on working and developing the car,
because we don’t want to stop at this.
And I repeat, until I am tired of doing so,
that we will never relent by a millimetre in this fight that is difficult,
very difficult, but which is still very open with a long way to go.
- It’s a turn around then in the championship
for Ferrari as the Red Bulls were clearly beaten.
Fernando spoke of a sort of alliance including Hamilton
and even Webber to take points off Vettel.
What can we expect in the next races?
- I think we will see races where everyone will be doing their utmost.
Let’s not underestimate Red Bull:
today they had a harder race than we have got used to seeing,
but I am sure that in Hungary they will be very competitive again.
It’s a circuit let’s not forget, where last year they had over a second in hand over everyone.
So we absolutely don’t change our approach.
Clearly the more drivers are in the fight then it’s easier
to say that Vettel can lose points, but with this in mind,
I would also like to underline the fact that Felipe drove a great race today.
He fought off Vettel for a very long time.
Then he had a problem at the pit stop at the end,
a problem with the wheel nut,
rather than the fault of any mechanic and it’s a shame
was also ruined by spending a long time behind Rosberg in the early stages.
So it was difficult but I am also happy with Felipe’s race.
- Next stop, Budapest,
Hungary and a reasonably slow track and no doubt rather warmer.
What performance can we expect there from Ferrari, especially in qualifying?
- I think we have to be cautious on this score.
I expect now of course to see a car capable
of fighting for the win all the way to the flag.
We will try to have a slightly better understanding of the situation on Friday.
It will not be easy in qualifying,
specially with all the traffic because it’s a short track,
so it can be tricky.
But we go to Budapest in determined mood.
- There are only a few days to go before Budapest.
Will the car be basically the same or will there be time to fit it
with some updates tried on Fridays in recent Grands Prix?
- No, we hope to bring a few small things
because we have to keep on doing this on the development and to make a step forward,
so if it all goes to plan we should have some updates.
