Okay, so we're looking at Glynn Philpot now
And this is one of the earlier paintings, isn't it?
It is, it is one of the paintings that signifies his work in the early 1900's
Or the 1920's. He worked in a formal style, he was extremely good at portrait painting.
And he became very wealthy from painting portraits of members of society in the 1920's.
Okay
He enjoyed, like, a lot of popularity with the academic establishment aswell so,
When he was 19, he had his first work accepted by the Royal Academy.
And he became a full member in his thirties. He was very popular and very wealthy.
And I guess it must have been quite soon after that, that he met some of the other aritsts,
That were becoming really big at the time, so people like Picasso.
Although he studied a lot in paris, and studied there many times. He didn't actually show much interest in modern art until
He sat on a panel of judges in the 1930's and he met Matisse and Picasso for the first time.
And then there was a big change in his work around that time, in the early 1930s.
So let's go and look at one of his later works.
