The house of Jalila Khamis Kuku
Jalila's youngest kids: Nihad and Nagla
My name is Nihad; and my name is Nagla
We haven't see her in a long time
But we don't know why they arrested her
They arrested her because we hosted a large number of people
who came fleeing from South Kordofan in the days when the war there erupted with the government
we hosted a large number, approximately more than 40 persons
we all used to sleep on the floor
she asked the women where she works at a non-profit to support us with those we are sheltering
as soon as she received this aid to help with supporting our guests
directly the week after that they detained her
and she had not visited "al balad" (South Kordofan)
and has no direct connection with what is happening there
it was the persons fleeing who come to our house who recounted to us the events of Kadugli
these are the persons fleeing from there
and they are our family; we can't just leave them
in the morning when I woke up, I just heard my dad tell me that my mum was not home
I just started to cry...I didn't know anything
we are waiting for her to come out
we have 6 kids- 3 girls and 3 boys
one girl is studying in university
one boy studies in middle school
the remaining four are in primary school
I'm their sole provider
before we used to help each other
If I need help she would supplement that with her teacher's salary
right now I've become dependent just on my salary
some brothers do help us; we can't deny their favor
this is the situation
I'm in grade five
I'm in grade six
now we study all alone
we are suffering because she herself in detention has developed hypertension
every two or three days I take to her the hypertension medication
she also has high rheumatism
who is responsible for all these thing?
My name is Shadia Kuku Hassan
Jalila is directly my aunt
but for me she is more than an aunt
I used to study university and my family was far, in Gazeera state
I used to come here and stay with her during my vacations
she has become like my mother
the difference between her and my mother is nothing
I finished university before Ramadan (July 2012)
and I'm now staying with them at home
and I'm taking care of the kids
but I can't take her place
we miss her a lot
we cry on a daily basis--every day
and her daughter Mawada studies in university
and comes back home everyday
we feel a huge loss
and we want her to get out by any means
we are under a lot emotional pressure and can't handle any more
and we want her out by any means
as you see the house is sad
even when we laugh; from inside we are not happy
as they say, nothing is like a mother
although she has been in detention for 9 months we don't know what to expect from legal procedures
they should put her through a trial so we know that she has been put to trial for a reason
until today her trial has been delayed for various reasons
such as the absence of the investigator for medical reasons
and the absence of the complainant
who said that they were not informed/invited
On December 13, 2012
after 9 months
after 9 months exactly
and now it has been delayed to December 18, 2012
I thank all the Sudanese nation
I can't mention specific persons, but all the nation
because they stood with Jalila
a strong stand
they made us feel that Jalila is not detained
because people were with us day and night
they are giving us moral support and we thank god for that
so thanks to god and to the brothers/sisters who have joined and supported us during Jalila's detention
we wish that she is released as soon as possible
we have not seen her in a long time
we want her to come out soon because I don't visit her frequently
we miss our mother
but we're waiting for her to come out, we don't know when she's coming out
