Hi everyone, Cannes Inside : day 9
Today's episode is about the Marché du film.
For those who didn't know, the Marché du film
is a temple for cinema, and especially Z movie.
This is where producers try to sell
their movies to distributors.
Coming down here is the assurance to see
weird posters : horror, animated or mainstream films.
It is like an antic sale, except that people
don't try to sell old ashtrays but movies.
For example, a snow shark tries to
kill a girl with a machete and ski poles.
And now, the "Gérard des plaines".
You can see this poster in my article on
vodkaster.com about the most improbables
movie posters at the marché du film.
Today's movie is La vie d'Adèle by Abdellatif Kechiche
the director of Black Venus and
Games of Love and Chance.
He comes back with a story about…
we don't really know actually.
There are young girls, love and blue hair.
Here's what our Insidos thought about it.
It's the most amazing film we have seen yet.
It's a beautiful movie.
The king of aesthetic shock that we
expect coming from the festival.
No one in the competition can compete with it.
It's the story of the young Adele,
in different chapters, for youth to adulthood.
The film starts when she is in high school
and finishes when she is a young adult
when she's about to start working as a teacher.
She's about to meet another young girl,
Lea Seydoux, an artist with blue hair,
and they're going to fall in love passionately.
This is gonna be an apprenticeship for Adele.
You're funny.
This is not realy important.
Sartre started an intellectual revolution
and liberated a whole generation.
It is about two girls who love each other
it's crude.
The first scene is shocking,
because it is really crude.
But that's the talent of Kechiche
'cause the next scenes are simple.
It's very natural, not erotic at all.
It's just beautiful.
Lea Seydoux is really courageous
and she shows it.
Adèle Excharpoulos is going to win
for Best Actress.
No need to get mad.
Don't tell what to do, she is the one talking non sense.
I'm just defending myself.
You're the one who's getting mad.
I'm mad because you keep saying I'm a lesbian.
I'm not. How should I tell you?
Kechiche does what he does best : filming actors.
We already knew that he
was Pialat's successor.
The way he films is perfect, very natural.
He's not Pialat's successor, he is Pialat.
The film lasts 3 hours,
but he goes by really fast,
showing 10 years of her life,
and sometimes slowing, working on the duration.
It feels like it lasts 30 minutes.
Time goes by very fast.
The film is about 2 lesbians,
but it could be about a heterosexual couple,
even if the perspective is feminine.
Marivaux's character says at the beginning :
I am a woman.
The film was shown just before it was finished.
There's no closing credits yet.
So the ending was the most violent
of all even if the film is really soft.
And we all just wanted to keep rolling.
Probably this year, the Queer Palm will be better than the Palme d'Or.
Today, I don't get the conversations around me as
I don't get what Alexander Payne is doing in the Selection.
We all say the same thing about La vie d'Adèle. It's dumb.
I wish someone could say something mean about it so that I could kick his ass.
Just watched L'inconnu du lac.
It deserves a crossover with La vie d'Adèle.
That could be our gay Avengers.
