the circle campaign is best described as a process
a process that helps us reconnect our relationships to one another
and the way we care for all of this our world
so first I think it's important to remind ourselves
of this world and just how lucky we really are
driving this road down to paradise
letting the sunlight into my eyes
our only plan is to
improvise and its crystal clear that I don't ever want it to end if I had my way
I would never leave, keep building these
random memories
turning our days into
melodies
but since I can't stay I'll just keep playing back
these fragments of time
everywhere I go
these moments will shine
I'll just keep playing back
to understand how the circle campaign process
helps us make a difference in this world I'd like to introduce Silver Cameron and
his interview with the founder
the Transition Network Rob Hopkins as he explains the heart
of an ever growing community-led movement change
Rob Hopkins is the founder of the transition movement
an idea that began in 2008 and since then has gone viral around the world
At the heart of the transition movement is the idea of a plan
imagined designed and implemented by the community to move away from fossil fuels
and into a rich
sociable locally focused way of life. The Transition movement has spread to more
than 400 towns
all over the globe
While the Transition movement is a resp- a collection of ordinary
people around the world motivated by
climate change, by peak oil, by the economic crisis that we're facing
and arguing that what we need to do is to build
community resilience, that the thing that will get us through this or one of the
things that will get us through that is community resilience
and we need to see that as an enormous opportunity
So when people talk about climate change there so many things we need to do and they
often feel like something terrible or we're moving away from where we want to be
in Transition we say there's an enormous opportunity here for an economic
a cultural and a social renaissance in the places that we live
So Transition's really about ordinary people
being fantastic, I think, in extraordinary times
About unleashing the collective genius of place to respond to these times
Communities are incredibly resourceful
things and we have this idea
or we've been fed this idea that if we want to make change happen
we have to wait for the coach load of experts to come in and get off of their
clipboards and walk around and write us a plan and go away again
and transition is a real challenge to that says actually what we need is
already here
and it's just a question having a process that unlocks it and that engages
people
So it needs to be a process that doesn't feel that it belongs to the left
it doesn't need to belong
that it belongs to the right doesn't -you know it can encompass a whole kind of
spectrums. It's about this place a this time in history
and what's the most appropriate thing for us to do moving forward
and that's a process that needs all of us and it needs to be done in such a way
that it invites us
to be innovative and to be brilliant and to- and to work together
okay! stop right there Rob. Thanks for your wonderful
explanation. So, the circle campaign is an attempt
to develop a process that engages us to come together
and create solutions in response to the greatest challenges
our world faces today. I admit
this is not easy. In our country, there are few social structures
or spaces that support or even remind us
of our ability to accomplish things together
So now I'd like you to listen in on a few people
who have been reminded of the power of collaboration
It is these practices and ideas
that have inspired me to create the Circle Campaign
and apply it to the Millennial Trains Project
as a way to spread these ideas across
our country
There's something about living the world
we want but living it today
and it exists because we say so and because we practice it
There was something about raising the bar for each other
as we become conscious of what is possible, what it means to live in a way
that houses quality and that is- that is truly sustainable and in community
There was a sense of being and invitation to others for new
possibilities
but also putting a stake in the ground of what is possible
building that now together and inviting others in, offering it to others
unconditionally
The process that's being followed here is quite
unique in that it's bringing all various industry players to the table we
realize if you read any of the media
that there's some perceived friction between some of the groups
because of conflicting land uses um
But this process allowed everybody to leave their hats at the door
and come on board um with a single goal of improving conservation outcomes
and
what in the past may have been one off meetings of some of these industry groups
this process has allowed government, community, the corporate sector
just to sit at the table and discuss really outcomes
and that's really an outcome in itself. It's a real achievement...
This idea it does not have barriers as far as I was concerned
you know? but the more interesting thing was when I started teaching these ideas
in fact to date I've taught it in eleven countries
from Japan to China. I've taught it in Vietnam
Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Australia, Germany
It doesn't really matter where I teach it. The people
in whatever country I teach- teach it to right- they receive it the same way
They will see through their issues in the same way. So here is an idea
the Arbringer ideas principles, they resonate with people
regardless of what culture or what
faith
uh or background they come from
because it is something that unites all of us as people.
So there you have it; a small glimpse
into the ideas and practices that a group of people would learn
through the Circle Campaign as a way to improve their communities
to learn what a circle is here's one more video
For thousands of years people sat together in circle
and then in the service of "progress"
the practices of circle faded away from the heart our diverse human cultures
But like so much real human wisdom
the circle is a fundamental expression or wholeness
managed to stay alive. In fact
in the past 25 years, a number of people from many backgrounds
agreed to carry circle into the world once again
in their own unique ways
Today, many of these people are entering their elder years
and like most practitioners, they have not paused on their quest to tell their own
stories
Their legacies are in danger of falling to the ground before they can be passed on
to future generations
Today, circle is being renewed in every social sphere
on every continent of our home planet
It is time to pay the circle carriers legacies
forward... And this is what I plan to do
with my project if I get on the Millennial Train
to carry forward the practice of circle
and to weave through it new and modern ideas that, I believe
can help all of us come together in community
and make a difference. To know more
about how this works please read my application
Finally, the last part of my video
is dedicated to my friends and family
and all the supporters. First, I'd like to talk to my family
Like any other hard-working family, we came here to America
to find a better way of life and seized opportunities
that have given us more that what we could have ever dreamed of
I thank you all for the love
and support you have given me throughout my life and I only wish
to use what I have been given and carry forth all of my hopes and dreams
to make a difference in this world. As my true motivation
to apply to the Millennial Trains Project, I hope to preserve
opportunities to the children of our family. Like this little
guy, who I realize will inherit a world far different from mine
I only wish to do my part
to make it better for all of us
Now, to my friends and all of us in the Millennial Generation
as I look at all our memories together, I can't thank you all enough for the
experiences that make life
that much more better, worthwhile, and meaningful
I know that sometimes it is difficult to look at old pictures
and believe that we are the future leaders of this country
but I am not worried I've never felt so lucky to be a part of
a very open-minded, carrying, passionate and creative generation
These times are hard, but I know that we are
capable of making things better than that they have ever been
All we need is the support of one another in this period
of our lives. I hope that you are all pursuing things that make you happy
and I think it's the day that we're able to come
together, combine all of our talents
passions and perspectives, that the world will finally know what we are
capable of
even if we might not know it yet ourselves
and I think it is once we embrace our roles as leaders
but promise to never lose the youth and wonder
we have in life, that we will
be amazing
To everyone who's gotten this far
in the video I thank you so much for your attention
if you do not yet feel compelled to donate to my cause
please do you watch the last three minutes of this video
which I think, sums up everything that I hope
we can accomplish in the next few years together
Bye!
