My name is Bob Schneider and I am an Assistant Professor in the department of Urban Planning
I also research in the field of sustainable transportation. About six percent of students
report that they bicycle to campus as their main mode of transportation. So that's about
1,800 students out of the 30,000-student body. One of the benefits of bringing bicycles to
campus is that you can fit 10 bicycles in the same space as a single automobile. Sustainable
transportation is really critical for the environmental and the economic reasons. Improving
things for walking and biking really makes the opportunities for all people better in
terms of their transportation between home and work, and home and stores and all types
of activities that they may want to go to.
