Hello my name is Dr. Susan Jewell. Now in this clip I'm going to talk to you about a
very important topic about post-surgical care after you've had a testicular biopsy. So what
do you do? Well, the first thing is that once you've had a biopsy, you're going to wait
awhile for the results to come back. And then when you get the results, the doctor is going
to call you. It's so important that you know what kind of questions to ask the doctor when
you have the results, especially if the doctor says it's an abnormal result. Then he's going
to talk to you about your options and the management of that particular, of the disease.
So, I advise that you should go on the internet, or get resources to learn about your options
and therefore you can discuss it with your doctor as well. So you're more informed and
you can make better decisive choices. Now the next thing is for post-surgical care.
You need to be careful, because after a surgery you're placed in a risk of bleeding and infection.
So you need to really clean the wound, take care of it, so that you don't put yourself
in to that situation where you're going to get an infection of that wound. Because it
will heal longer. Now the next thing, you're going to get soreness for about two to three
days obviously, but that will gradually go away. And you're going to get swelling and
discoloration, so don't get alarmed when you go home and then maybe the next day you see
that your scrotum has turned purple, or a funny color. Because that's just from the
surgery and the swelling from the surgery because you've opened up the skin and the
tissue. So that's normal. That should actually go away, disappear within three days. The
doctors will also recommend that you wear an athletic supporter for a few days so that
you can take the weight off that scrotum area, and it will help it heal better, take away
the pain as well. Refrain, very important, from sexual activity for up to two weeks,
because you don't want to exert any more pressure on that area. Because that will put you at
risk of reopening the cut. Keep the area dry and avoid using aspirin for about a week,
because you want to help the healing process and you want to make sure that it does heal
correctly and properly and faster. So these are some of the things that you should actually
be well aware of after you've had a testicular biopsy procedure done.
