Hi Everybody. I'm Dr. David Reath and I'm here to talk about this week's Truth-O-Meter Tuesday question
As most of you know October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month so we asked a question about breast augmentation and mammography.
and what we said was that mammograms prior to breast augmentation aren't all that important
becuase the plastic surgeon is going to be able to see all the breast tissue at the time of surgery and
and will know if there is something wrong. Well, everybody got this one correct.
The answer is absolutely false for two reasons.
if you need a mammogram, are aged 35 or older and should be getting screening mammography
on a yearly basis, this should be done prior to having a breast augmentation.
The second part of this is that even though we are placing breast implants
we are not disturbing the breast tissue at all and cannot examine the breast tissue
through a breast augmentation any more than we would be able to examine it through a physical examination in the office.
So it's an importnat point. It's always better to get the mammography done prior to a breast augmentation and it's a misconception to
think that I am doing a breast augmentation and if there is something lurking in you breast I will necessarily be able to see it.
So let's find out who this week's winner is.
Renee Baker. Renee, congratulations! You are this week's winner.
We have a $100 gift card for you so come into the office and pick that up. Everyone else, thanks for playing. We'll have another question next week.
