Hi! I’m Lisa Krone and I am here with Best Epicurean and on the behalf of expervillage.com,
today we are going to make grilled cheese using the microwave. So what I’ve done ahead
of time is I’ve toasted some bread and a lot of times I find that for my teenager’s
if I have this done ahead of time, they can make the rest of it and that makes my life
a whole lot easier. For using little kids and you don’t want them to use the toaster,
you can start them off by toasting the bread and they can finish the job. So what I like
to have as my tools, especially if I have little ones, I like to use these little spreader
knives because it makes buttering the bread a little bit easier and then I will go to
the store and I will buy this pre-sliced cheese and it is so easy for them because it is already
portioned out. I’ll take some butter or they can take some butter which is probably
what we really want to have happen and just put it on the bread. You don’t even have
to put it where it is done out that much; all this does is help increase the flavor
of the cheese and you don’t have to put on that much. You can even take out a little
pat of butter for your really really little ones if they are making this. In case you
don’t want them to have a whole lot of butter, you can watch your family’s diet, you want
to watch the fat intake and take the cheese slice and place one down here, like this,
so I have good coverage. I like to go over on the side so it melts on to the side and
makes it taste extra good and then I will place it on this side, again overlapping just
a tiny bit and then I will match up; I’ve got to make sure I match up the sides of my
bread so we don’t have any mismatched bread. It actually goes like that so we don’t have
mismatched bread. We take it and throw it in the microwave for 30 seconds; I wouldn’t
do any more. I check it and put it in. One of the things that you can add to your grilled
cheese is you can get some of the pre-cooked bacon and place that on there. If you want
to make it a little healthier for your children, you can get some sliced tomatoes. They will
cook up just a little bit to give it some extra flavor. You can also serve your grilled
cheese with things like celery sticks or carrot sticks and serve that with some ranch dressing,
anything to get your kids to eat vegetables as I say. Our microwave is finished beeping
and check that out. We have a lovely cooked grilled cheese. You just grab your knife for
your kids, cut it in half and that is how we make grilled cheese in the microwave.
