A really fun stretch that you can do with your horse is the carrot stretch. And when
you are doing that, the idea is to get your horse to take his nose and turn the carrot
back this way, the horse is going to turn ideally he should be able to get his nose
all the way back to his flank area. Older horses, the first time horses have done this
it's going to take them longer to do that. They may not be able to stretch as far. So
you want them to stretch this side and then you are going to get them to stretch underneath
by holding a carrot down here, holding it underneath them and getting them to reach
down with their nose to take the carrot. Again the first time they do that it's going to
be a little bit harder for them then subsequent times. What that will do is to stretch out
the whole horse's top line from their poll all the way back to their tail ok. And that's
a nice thing to do for them, especially a dressage horse. Any horse that's in a lot
of heavy work. If you can get them to stretch their top line they're going to be much more
supple for the things that you want them to do and it's important if you do one side to
get them to stretch back to the flank, you have to do the other side too.
