ANCHOR CHRISTINA HARTMAN One day after Israeli fighter jets shot down
an unmanned drone in the northern part of the country, no official suspect has been
named but the Israeli government quietly has its suspicions.
Israeli media outlets
are reporting government officials believe Hezbollah is behind the drone in an attempt
to gather intelligence about Israel’s defenses and military sites.
The Israeli government’s
suspicion is more than just a guess. MSNBC and Fox News provide the recent backstory
between Hezbollah and Israel.
“Hezbollah is known to have sent drones into Israeli
airspace on previous occasions. In the 2006 war, the militant group launched in Iranian-made
drone capable of carrying explosives into Israel.”
“Tensions are running high
between Iran and Israel of course over Tehran’s nuclear program which many believe is a cover
for the development of atomic weapons.“
According to CNN, a national security and defense commentator
for Israel says the drone originated in Lebanon and “It is entirely clear the UAV was sent
by an Iranian proxy.”
Iran allegedly provided Hezbollah with its first drones,
and reportedly continues to fund the organization. A writer for Haaretz says the suspicions about
Hezbollah is right on target.
“Hezbollah invests much in operating drones in a continuous
and in-depth manner, while receiving support from Iran. The drones that the IDF had intercepted
in the past, all in the area around the Lebanese border, were the Iranian-made Ababil drone.”
Both
Israel and Iran have not made official statements about the drone.
