Hi, I’m Philip Payne I teach New Testament at Fuller Seminary Northwest and I love CBE
because it is living the truth of the Bible. And not just theoretical but it’s applying
it to issues in life and I think that’s key.
I also love it because the way it brings together so many people who alone couldn’t do what
CBE together can do, things like the conferences. They have such tremendous impact because of
the combined skills and gifts of the people it brought together.
I think it’s wonderful that the editorial staff at CBE is willing to take courageous
stands and to speak for the truth, even if it’s a novel thing that other people would
be afraid to follow. If the evidence is there, they go for it. Bill Spencer is wonderful
in this. I love the positive attitude of CBE. I read
their journals and I never come away feeling “Eww this is negative” it’s positive.
Now if there is something that’s wrong it will point it out but its focus is not tearing
down, its focus is building up and it’s fair. Where there are criticisms, I find them
fair. I just think what CBE is doing around the
world is making a huge difference for women--women sometimes who have been despairing, finding
hope--finding their gifts and using those gifts, being freed from situations that have
been oppressive, abusive. It’s great that CBE is willing to tackle
the tough issues like slavery in this world. So I just say, God Bless CBE and all its work!
