Hi my name is Kaye Widdowson
and I teach in the School of Sport and Science
I teach a range of Animal related courses
so from Certificate two level up to Diploma
I've been using eportfolios for the last five years
but this is the first year
I've used them in every single unit
and class that I'm teaching
I started using eportfolios
for two reasons
the first reason was personal
I had a play around with eportfolios
using the PebblePad platform
I really enjoyed using it
I could see that
probably students would feel the same way about it
it's a lot of fun to use
it's got a lot of applications
and students and I
are able to record all of the things
that we'd been doing in our lives
personally I used it to
record my own learning
and I could see that could easily translate
into assessments
because in the animal field
we need to record
work place information
we need to record information about getting job ready
and I could see that an eportfolio
would be a great way to do that
Paper based is fine
but an eportfolio is
allows you to have links to
other organisations and
to job sites
and so that would be
more engaging to students
The second reason
really related to the first
in that I could see that
the level of engagement of students would be
much much higher using eportfolios
because they're visual
students can personalize them
they love putting the photos in of their own animal
they love putting in the links to animal related sites
like the RSPCA
and Melbourne Zoo
They can quickly link
click on those links
and they're able to show other people
what they're passionate about in the animal field
