My name's Bex, and I'm the teacher at Messy Boots.
Messy Boots is a sensory art class.
We explore texture and colour.
We explore different materials,
all with lots of edible resources so it's very safe for children.

Messy Boots started because I felt that there wasn't that many experiences for children,
particularly living in a city, to get messy.
Having a background as a teacher,
I used to put a lot of messy activities in my classroom.
It's really good to explore and learn through play and through the senses.
And I think there aren't the opportunities that,
say I had growing up in the countryside,
for children to get messy.
There aren't rivers for them to run in
and not so many muddy parks for them to dig around in.
So I wanted somewhere for my son and for other children
to get messy in a safe way,
and for parents to be able to get involved with that as well.

During a session at Messy Boots we always have play dough.
It's a very safe material,
particularly when children are learning to get messy.
We also have edible paint,
children can explore either just by feeling or by making pictures with it.
And we always have an extra messy activity.
So it might be jelly or rice or chocolate mousse.
And we always put animals inside and glitter to sparkle it up.
