Are Google Plus Hangouts On Air and politicians the next big thing in political communication?
We think so. Stay tuned to see why. Politicians in Hangouts, a compelling use case for Google
Plus Hangouts. A properly optimized and branded Google Plus Hangout will definitely increase
the visibility of the candidate. It's the new and exciting way to get your message out
and interact with the public. Google Plus Hangouts will allow you to have a video chat
for up to ten people at a time. It is definitely the future for online communication. It is
using motion, sight and sound. Hangouts combine the power of video and social. Video is the
most compelling way to present your message online. Social is the best way to spread your
message online. So, Google Plus Hangouts will combine both of those very powerful elements
together. Let's talk about what a Google Plus Hangout is. It comes in two flavors. The first
one is called Hangouts, second one is called Hangouts On Air. They're very similar, with
some slight differences. Both of them are free components of Google Plus. Both of them
can have up to ten participants. Let's talk about what's different between Hangouts On
Air versus just regular Hangouts. Hangouts On Air are automatically recorded for future
24/7, on-demand playback. That playback occurs inside YouTube and on your website plus Hangouts
On Air are automatically broadcast live to the world for the world to watch live. This
extends the reach far beyond the ten participants in a normal Hangout. Google Plus Hangouts
have changed the way that politicians connect with voters forever. You could hold a virtual
town hall with a Google Plus Hangout. You can meet with the voters without the limitations
of travel. You can visit more towns in a single day using Google Plus Hangout. You can hold
virtual debates. It's easy to schedule debates without the limitations of travel, and you
can, of course, defend your message more efficiently because you don't have to do the travel. It
makes it easy for citizens to give feedback, and this also empowers citizens to be heard,
allowing the politician to understand more completely the needs of the voters. It's a
way to do virtual door-knocking, and it's pretty easy. You simply schedule a time to
meet with your voters, and then they show up inside the Hangout. Of course, it's ten
at a time, but once those ten have had their say and you've communicated well with them,
you can ask them to politely leave, and bring in ten more. Let's look at the stage. What
are the elements that are involved inside of a Hangout? First, we have this main viewing
area, which is called the main screen. Below that, we have what's called the film strip.
This is where up to ten people that you have invited will be visible. We suggest that you
utilize a moderator to help control the conversation flow. The normal methodology for who is changed
inside the main viewing area is based on audio. So, when Citizen B is asking the question,
Citizen B will be the primary in the main window. This can be overridden by the moderator.
The moderator does have control as to who is visible, no matter who is speaking. This
is shown here by what's called a blue box. The moderator can select anybody's video that's
a live feed down here in the bottom, and that will become who is shown in the main window,
based on what the moderator chooses. The moderator can also replace their visual live video feed
with a screen share, which will allow you to show a graphic, represented right here
by Future. Google Plus Hangouts and Hangouts On Air can be used for national, as well as
state and local political discourse. If you plan on making Google Plus Hangout technology
work for you and your campaign, you will need to make sure that it is a totally branded
experience. It's the new and exciting way to interact and get your message out. Google
Plus Hangouts have changed the way that politicians communicate forever. Don't get left behind.
