Can a child become a bully through martial arts? I say no, it all depends on the instructor.
Here at my school we make sure that we reinforce with the students that karate is only used
for self defense and only protection. So we don't use it to get what we want, we always
keep it a secret if we have to use it to defend ourselves.
So again, martial arts is used only for self defense. If for some reason we see one of
the kids becoming like he's going towards becoming a bully we nip it in the bud, we
sit him down and let him know what it's used for.
And if you think about it, if you build the self confidence in them then they don't need
to become a bully because they feel good about themselves and then they don't have to pick
on anybody else.
As a matter of fact most of our students usually help kids who are being bullied, not becoming
a bully themselves. And because our program is mostly like an anti bullying program, one
of the most successful ones around, we make sure that all of our kids become, non bullying
type of students.
And with the instructors and parents working together your child will never become a bully
through martial arts.
