The master entrepreneurship program they truly do present budding entrepreneurs
with the skill sets and the
methods and processes that they would need to be able to go and start their
own company,
or in our case, to be able to take the company to a whole
different level.
I remember sitting down and just thinking,"oh my gosh how in the world did I
not notice before".
What am I doing wrong with Warmilu and what I'm doing for Warmilu.
This is the Master of Entrepreneurship program.
This is the inaugural class. Back in August I was so excited and thrilled it
was just like, " Man, I'm in a super cool new program". I mean, I knew that
there was going to be a lot of new things thrown at us I knew that
they might not have all the kinks worked out but
I was so excited. It was just a fantastic time, it was
pretty exciting going in. I hope to further Warmilu which is the company that
I've cofounded and
ideally will be able to spread the warmth to reduce infant mortality in
low-resource settings.
I was born pre-term and so their story is my story
and that's why I want to save their lives so much because
in another life that could have been me.
I remember giving a presentation. It just
went horribly. I remember sitting down and just thinking oh my gosh how in the
world did I not know this before.
So I went through all the pieces of feedback, I just looked at it and
realize oh my gosh I had improperly internalized the feedback and so that's
when I started going through all those spreadsheets with feedback,
all the little pieces of paper that I had taken notes on on the back of
homework assignments and little note sides I sent myself over fetchnotes on
my email and I looked at all that and it was just like
okay you know what? I'm going to dive into that market and check out
every piece of feedback we have gotten so far. That involved having a business
model pivot where
not only would we sell to non-governmental organizations but also
to EMT's here in the United States and that was something that caused
two of our co-founders to realize that their personal and professional values
didn't align with Warmilu necessarily so that was something I had not anticipated at all;
that two would be resigning.
That experience enabled me to be a better leader; to be able to
prevent that those are things from happening in the future. I came
out with a much better understanding of
my skill sets as well as my limitations. Warmilu has been more
successful than I could have
imagined. My hopes and dreams for the future include
being able to take Warmilu through some the next steps of milestones
where we get to the final R and D, we get the pilot program in the air, we get into
first sales.
In addition, I have dreams of being able to have stories where people come to us
and say your infant warming blanket saved our infant's life.
We couldn't have had our daughter,
you know, she's six years old now because of what
you've done as a company. I want to be able to see and hear more of those stories.
Those would be so rewarding, especially after all the hard work and
the hard work we're going to have to continue putting into the company.
