Pregnant terrapins cause delays at JFK Airport
Some uninvited guests arrived at New York's JFK International Airport two days ago,
forcing the parking apron to shut down for 15 minutes.
About 150 diamondback terrapins
crawled onto the tarmac of JFK Airport,
leaving planes stuck on the runway.
(Pilot) "There are turtles on the runway."
(Tower) "Please come clean them up!"
(Cleaning staff) "Got it. We will come right away!"
Airport staff spent three hours scooping up the turtles
and helping them to cross the tarmac,
so that the runway could resume operations.
Now is egg-laying season,
so the "turtle army" was probably crossing the apron
to lay their eggs at a nearby beach.
