Good evening, ladies and gentlemen! I'm Professor Tamir Sukkary.
I teach political science courses at American River College
in Sacramento, at Sierra College in Rocklin,
at Sacramento City College, and at Delta College in Stockton.
I was born and raised in Sacramento. I'm the son of brain drain immigrants
from Egypt. I attended public schools in the Sacramento area.
I went to Sac State where I earned my
Bachelor's degree in Government with a concentration in International Relations.
Right after graduating, I spent the summer in Berkeley
studying classical Arabic at UC Berkeley. I took an intensive
Arabic language course there, and I'm very grateful that I did that because
the Arabic that I had been exposed to as a kid started coming back to me and now
Arabic is a second language for me. I went to graduate school in Texas.
I earned my Master's in Political Science with a minor in Humanities
from Texas State University. So, I teach because I love learning
and teaching gives me the opportunity to continually learn. I'm learning new
things from my students every semester,
and I love my job. That's
primarily why I got into teaching. I also come from a
long line of teachers. My mother and father are both college professors, and my
grandfather was also a teacher. So, I suppose it also sort of runs in the blood.
Although teaching wasn't always my career goal
initially, I've certainly found my passion, and I love
working with students. I've been teaching for about 10 years now, and
I love what I do. :)
