Next, loan consolidation is what she thought she was getting but instead a Milwaukie woman
who thought she was lowing her monthly payments got conned out of more than 400 dollars. Kohr
Harlan talked with her tonight. Shes got a warning for others, Kohr, who seek this sort
of help. That's right Jeff, people seeking loans on the internet in particularly. For
Eva Lois, this was supposed to be the day that she reduced her monthly expenses and
improved her cash flow and make the 800 and 28 dollars a month she lives off on goes just
a little bit further. Instead tonight she's out more than 400 dollars. Eva: I cried a
lot, I prayed a lot because, you know, I pride myself as being really, you know, a pretty
smart person. And I can usually tell when somebody is running a game on me. This game,
Eva says, went right over her head. After finalizing the terms of her new internet loan,
the person claiming to be the loan officer told her to load $480 dollars onto a cash
card as a way of verifying she had enough cash on hand to make the first two payments
of her new loan. Eva gave the cash card number to the man who said he'd transfer it right
back to her and he never did. And I can't keep crying, that's not my style, I'm usually
smiling, that's my style. I love to smile at people and make people laugh, that's me.
But today no smiles for Eva. Phone message: 'I am the one who has the loan for you, that
guy is a criminal ok' After her money was gone, another man from the same outfit left
a message and then called her again and tried to get $300 more dollars out of Eva to make
the original loan work. You know I'm crying and carrying on and I'm trying to explain
to him that you cant do this to me, you've taken all of my money this is what I have
to live off of. We called her co called loan officer and got a very non corporate cell
phone voice message and no return calls as yet. Eva, meanwhile, is down but not defeated.
And I used to tell my sisters and my mom, if she was still living she would be shaking
her head saying, you know, how could you. Cause she'd say, 'you know you don't get old
being no fool.' She's still got a good sense of humor in spite of all of that now. The
$408 dollars she was conned out of is about half of what she has to live on for the month
of August. Now after her rent is paid the first of the month, She'll only have about
$160 dollars for food and bills for the entire month of August. Big warning to everybody
out there who seeking loans on the internet, verify, verify, verify. Jeff and Kelly. Great
advice, good story
