[Marco Cerezo]: So the Neo-Tropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act, by insuring a long
term support program for our efforts to protect migratory birds in Central America and in
particular Guatamala has been very important to insure that these birds are protected throughout
their migratory range.
[Bennett Hennessey]: The significance of the Neo-Tropical Migratory Bird Act for us has
been the ability to protect habitat for the Buff Breasted Sandpiper, to educate people
in the area about the species, and to help us manage larger areas to improve habitat
for the species.
[Alberto Yanosky]: Asuncion is the capital city of Paraguay and it holds a very beautiful
bay which is very important as a stop over for neo-trops, so they Neo-Tropical Migratory
Bird Conservation Act has been supporting us in working this important site.
[Sara Lara]: Organization [?] is starting to build up internally in Columbia at the
local, national and international level. So that at the same time, when you're doing conservation
helps the institution capacity, building a stronger organization and reaching out not
only to migrants but also to resident birds and critically endangered species.
[Bennett Hennessey]: The Neo-tropical migratory bird act has allowed us to put conservation
attention to habitat that was previously ignored because of its importance for the life cycle
of the buff breasted sandpiper and the fact that they winter and stop over for a period
in this habitat. It was considered previously not as important.
[Sara Lara]: So we are very grateful that we can in fact continue in spite of a very
difficult time, economic recession. But these fans for an institution at such prowess are
crucial. Thank you to the Neo-tropical Migratory Bird Act for that support.
