when i was twenty eight years old i was working
for the city of phoenix police department in arizona on march 26
2001, my patrol car was rear-ended by a taxicab
that according to the investigation he was doing 115 miles an hour
as fate would have it, I was less than two-and-a-half miles away
from one of the best burn centers in the southwest united states
and they had me in the emergency room in less than eight minutes and were able to save my life
My road to recovery included
almost three months in a medically-induced coma and
a little or five months in the hospital
Total -- I was completely blind for
about eight months. To date I've had fifty-two surgeries
Dr. Leighton
he was able to restore
my self-confidence my motivation for
continuing on with life my happiness and acceptance of
my new appearance to the point now that
i'm very happy when i look in the mirror and i have no problem getting through
days
no matter where I'm at out in public
i decided to give something back to the world and my community who was so
good to me and my family throughout this
incident
uh... to name a few I'm on the burn from foundation for the state of arizona eyes
and
time with for survivors at county hospital children's burn camp
in prescott arizona

and you just gotta taken as accounts and enjoy every minute of
to be recognized as efficient courage is
