Ingrown toenail treatment.
Do you feel pain in your toenail? Does it get worse when you wear tight footwear? Does
bumping your toe cause sharp excruciating pain? You may have an ingrown toenail.
In mild to moderate cases treat your toe with warm water and antibacterial ointment. This
will help prevent infection, and help you to relax.
You might try using something like dental floss to force the offending nail to grow
in the proper direction, this can be painful.
In more severe cases, a surgical procedure is necessary. The surgeon will attempt to
separate part of your toe plate from your toe. In most cases this can be done without
having to remove your toenail completely. If your toenail is removed. You should start
to see it growing back in about 2 weeks. In about 6-9 months your toenail should be back
to normal.
To prevent future ingrown toenails: Make sure your shoes fit properly, and that
you have adequate toe-box room. When cutting your toenails, use a proper nail
clipper, instead of scissors. Also remember to cut straight, (not on an angle) and do
not cut too short. Unfortunately your ingrown toenail could be
caused by something completely different, like the shape of your foot. Talk to your
doctor to find out what the best way for you to prevent ingrown toenails.
