Hiya, it's been a little while since I've done a video blog, I've been really busy with
third year, but now with the final point, the degree show, I'm all done so I've got
more time to start really getting back into the habit of writing more blogs, putting up
pictures and answering your questions. So today, I'm invigilating the degree show, which
just means babysitting really. I'm currently on the ground floor of the exhibition. I do
have a few bits of work in here I won't go into it and bore you and show you just my
stuff but what I'm going to do is I'm just going to do a bit of a walk round down here,
so we'll have a look at some of the bits. There's a good combination of work in here
actually. It's more varied than the other slots. This is the bench I've been sat on
all day, if we keep wandering round. Ordinarily these studios, well these are the
studios for the Fine Art students and it's actually a new space to us this year and I
tell you what I'm really jealous because if I'd had this in my first year I would have
absolutely loved it, kind of thing. Something that most people don't understand is or they
don't notice is how much work goes into preparing for these kinds of shows. So, this room had
a lot of building work done to it and we had to come in and prepare all the surfaces, prepare
the floor and we had to hand and curate the show ourselves. A lot of communication has
to go into these kinds of things, like being able to work with other students, balance
works, curate it, without the aid of a tutor. Like a tutor can come and be like "ah have
you thought about this, this and this" but on the whole, it's all of the students that
put the hard work in and make these shows what they really are.
The degree show was really good. It was busy, there were people everyone. It was just a
really big event. We had bands playing; performance pieces taking place. I'm trying to think,
it feels like it's so long ago but it was only about four or five days ago. I was massively
stressing because this is like the finite point of the degree this is what it's all
been building to, so for me to bring my parents down and have a lovely afternoon, it was very
stressful, very stressful, but I enjoyed it. Hopefully, if I can remember how to do some
video editing I'll make a little show reel of just bits that I had filmed throughout
the day. You know, as I didn't want to wonder around with a camera whilst there were so
many people everywhere. But yeah, so this is the degree show and I'm
going to be putting up more stuff soon, so more blogs about portfolios, what I submitted
for all of my assessments, so I'll show you my portfolio, all of my research kind of stuff,
the bits you don't always think about for Art. So yeah, I'll generally have more free
time to let you know more about Fine Art at Kingston. Also, fingers crossed I've put in
my application for a Masters now so you never know, my face may be about for another year.
But until my next video, bye.
