hi I'm Larry Welty
MoDOT area engineer for North St Louis County. In this video
we will discuss the segment from I-70
to McDonnell Boulevard. The issues in this corridor
include at the St. Charles Rock Road interchange
there is not enough room for the heavy left turn volumes
also the cross streets are too close to the interchange.
The 370 interchange
is tied to the Missouri Bottom
interchange and it is too close to McDonnell Boulevard
interchange. Missouri Bottom has no access
to and from the east on I 270.
The McDonnell Boulevard interchange
does not handle the traffic volumes
including the heavy left turn from eastbound 270
to McDonnell to the north and McDonnell
from the south to westbound 270. Let's talk about option 1
at Saint Charles Rock Road we're proposing a diverging diamond
which will cross traffic to the other side going through the interchange.
This will provide free-flowing left turns
to handle the traffic volumes. Option 2
at Saint Charles Rock Road is basically widening
St. Charles Rock Road and
adding dedicated left-turn lanes to
interstate 70 and to southbound Interstate 270.
In option 1 there are no significant improvements in the 370 interchange.
At the McDonnell Boulevard interchange we're providing a diverging diamond
interchange
where traffic will cross over as it goes through the interchange
and it provides free left turns
to handle the heavy volumes. On Option 2
there are no significant improvements to the 370 interchange.
Between Missouri Bottom and McDonnell Boulevard
we're providing one-way connector roads this will provide
smoother traffic from 370 to McDonnell Boulevard.
We're also providing a crossing near 270
and England Road to provide more options
for businesses in this area. For the heavy northbound
to westbound movement we'll be providing a loop ramp
to westbound 270.
