The Missouri Department of Conservation encourages you to discover nature
by taking a winter hike.
From the subtle sounds of snow falling in the woods, to the shapes of trees and hills,
nature reveals surprising rewards even in the cooler months.
Since March weather is unpredictable, dress in layers.
The base layer should fit snug. Insulation is the next layer...a fleece or wool sweater
is a good choice. The final layer, a shell, should be waterproof
and breathable to keep you dry.
And don't forget your hat, gloves and a good pair of waterproof hiking boots.
Bring a small day-pack with food, water and emergency supplies and you're ready to get
outdoors.
A trek outdoors anytime of the year is a perfect time to discover nature.
