Darryle Pollack: When I had my diagnosis it was 17 years ago and actually I didn’t get
a lot of advice and help and support at the time, and I’d like to say that everybody
watching this right now is already doing the first thing I would suggest, which is getting
advice.
I think that in terms of the wisdom, one of the things that was most inspirational to
me was actually talking to people who had survived, who had a worse diagnosis than I
did. I don’t know anything about…none of us know anything about the people watching
but to me at the time, there was a great difference between the people that I knew who had a tiny
little lump and a lumpectomy and a little radiation, and what I went through, which
was Stage-3 and I had five surgeries and chemo for a year and I think for me, that was really
important to, as Jean said, ‘to hear from people who had been there’. I mean it’s
really important to hang on to that I think for your own peace
of mind.
