Hello, my name is Vasko Gareski from Gamma Solutions,
and today I will be I'll be describing how to replace a printhead on an Intermec PM4i label printer.
To begin with, before anything is attempted,
please ensure that all power is switched off the printer and the cable is unplugged from the back of the printer.
Once that has happened, basically you have the printer as it is right now, fitted with label and ribbon.
To remove the printhead, the procedure is as follows.
Unlock the printhead as such, remove the takeup spool of ribbon as such
and leave it on the table as I have just done there.
This is to ensure that the ribbon does not go all over the place
Then to remove the printhead it is the process of lifting the printhead off the pressure mechanism as such
and bringing it out to the left as follows.
Once the printhead is out you'll see that there are two sets of cabling connected to the printhead,
the one on the left is providing power to the printhead,
and the one on the right is providing data to the printhead.
Remove the power cable first as such, and then remove the data cable.
Take care to ensure that none of these wires are removed from the cable assembly
as they can be a little bit fragile if removed roughly.
The printhead has been removed and the cable assemblies are still there in place.
The process to fit a new printhead is the reverse.
Simply take a new printhead, connect up the data cable first
ensuring that the key and the notch line up as such.
Then fit the power cable assembly to the left as follows,
ensure it is pushed in far enough to hear the little snap as such.
Bring the whole assembly back towards the pressure mechanism as follows.
Lift it up to ensure that the guides there and there meet up properly.
Once in place make sure the magnet on the pressure arm takes hold of the printhead.
Ensure that the ribbon and label are routed correctly.
Lock the printhead down and then
bring the ribbon roll over the tension bar and onto the takeup reel.
To ensure that the printhead is working fine and all the labels and ribbon are in correct tension,
unlock the printhead, and just absorb the slack as follows.
Again ensure that the ribbon is not kinked or torn in any way
as it will tear once the printer is switched on.
Lock the printhead down again,
reconnect the power, switch it on, and the printer is now ready to use.
