SERVICING LOCAL PILOTS SINCE
THE EARLY 30'S ... BUT NEW
BUILDINGS SOUTH-EAST OF THE
AIRPORT HAVE PUT THOSE PILOTS
IN JEOPARDY.

AIRPORT OFFICIALS SAY THESE
BUILDINGS EXCEED THE FEDERAL
AVIATION ADMINISTRATION HEIGHT
LIMIT MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR
PILOTS TO LAND SAFELY. A
FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR FOR DIAMOND
FLIGHT CENTER...SAYS PILOTS
HAVEN'T HAD ANY MAJOR ISSUES
FLYING OVER THE
BUILDINGS...BUT SOMETIMES GET
TOO CLOSE.

SPANISH FORK WOULDN'T ALLOW
THE AIRPORT TO DEMOLISH THE
PROBLEMATIC BUILDINGS SO THE
AIRPORT DECIDED TO SHIFT THE
RUNWAY INSTEAD.
"By moving the runway 300 feet
to the northwest the airport
is making it safer for pilots
of airplanes like this."
AIRPORT OFFICIALS SAY THE
CHANGE WILL GIVE PILOTS MORE
SPACE BETWEEN THEIR PLANES AND
THE STRUCTURES BELOW DURING
LANDINGS. CITY OFFICIALS SAY
THE PROJECT HAS BEEN
EXPENSIVE...COSTING ABOUT 3
MILLION DOLLARS SO FAR...BUT
THE F-A-A IS HELPING WITH THE
BILL...MAKING THE UPDATE
EASIER FOR THE CITIES TO
AFFORD.
