What is the cheapest car rental company?
I guess borrowing a friend’s car isn’t an option.
Not anymore, it isn’t.
Sign up for Lyft on demand ride sharing. It’s sometimes a third or less the cost of a cab
ride.
I hate the pink mustaches on their cars.
It’s the price you pay for a cheap ride. You could try Uber.
Super what?
Uber lets you schedule pick ups from various drivers in the area. And you pay via cell
phone, so you don’t run into problems if you aren’t paying with cash.
They’re a black box.
Actually, they are a black car service. A private cab company.
I think Lyft is cheaper.
Lyft does have competition from Sidecar.
I’m not getting in a side car.
Sidecar is a ridesharing app. You can pick which drivers you like, the type of vehicle
and without the surging price structure Uber has.
They charge you more when demand is highest. It’s like congestion based pricing.
It is congestion based pricing.
It is annoying when toll roads do it, but that’s social engineering for you. When
a business does it, it is spiteful.
So much for supply and demand economics.
I may want a car for a ride or for a weekend. What are my options to rent a car for a few
days?
RelayRide and JustShareIt let you rent someone else’s car for a few hours or a few days.
RelayRides has more vehicles, while JustShareIt is cheaper.
What are their prices?
You can get a cheap car for $25 a day or a big or fancy one for $100 a day. And you may
be able to walk over to a neighbor to rent it instead of getting a lift to the car rental
place.
So I could rent anything from a pickup truck to an SUV.
Yeah, but minivans cost the most Monday through Friday because that’s when the Moms are
driving them. Jeeps are cheapest midweek, whereas they’re driving on the weekends.
This sounds like someone’s solution to making money off the car sitting in the garage when
you aren’t driving it.
At least it gives you a way to get a cheaper rental.
