Today’s event was a Multiagency Strike Force Operation, or MASFO.
It’s basically where federal, state and local authorities get together and interact
and show each other what we do and take part in enforcement and interdiction of shipments of cargo.
The Coast Guard’s role is we were in charge of planning the MASFO.
We are in charge of looking at the hazardous and general cargo that’s being shipped inbound and outbound from Greenwich Marine Terminal.
For Greenwich Marine Terminal and most regulated facilities, they are held to an annual inspection.
They have to have one inspection for each type they’re applicable to,
so security and safety as well as random spot checks throughout the year.
The District Commander came and had oversight of the entire operation.
He met with the facility security officer; he wanted to see what was taking place at the facility and the MASFO as a whole.
These MASFOs are great because it really enforces the relationship between the federal and state agencies.
It’s a great training opportunity for the Coast Guard and all the other agencies.
I was questioned by the State Police — what are we doing? What does the Coast Guard do?
It’s kind of neat to be able to reinforce our relationship with our brother and sister partners.
