if we go back and look at luke fourteen
you have to go there now but it won't fourteen i i'm not big highly sure but i
think this is the middle year jesus is three-year ministry
it is beginning he's
he's going forth administering and he's having he's breaking bread with
different
um... people that are following him and
in in his path and he's
in a in the pharisees house
uh... one of the pharisees house
uh... and it's a sabbath
and actually been in israel on the sabbath
and broken bread
within an orthodox jewish community
it's a grand celebration i mean do you really really
it it's a wonderful times very intimate
jesus is their and luke fourteen he heals
uh... made with dropsy
um... it's not the first time but he keeps doing this
on the sabbath he's healing people
and they did like that
so he's starting to make himself somewhat odious to the ruling elite
at the same time
what's interesting is the outcasts of the culture the society the tax gathers
the sinners
okay
they are starting to get intrigued with this guy because you're not feeling condemned
when the there around them
anyways verse fifteen verse one and two
now on the tax collectors and sinners were coming
near to him
to listen to him
both the pharisees and scribes began to grumble
saying
the spin receive sinners and eats with them
jesus spoke this week on understand a context of the culture
jesus spoke this to a very religious community
israel was really pretty much a theocratic country
okay they work
and what was a democratic it wasn't totalitarian it was
all about
there
faith in their religion
it so they have the ruling council the Sanhedrin and you probably
read about that elsewhere in scripture
this theocratic country is in subjugation
to a poloytheistic empire the roman empire
their back slidden
it literally
jesus is showing up just at the time quite honestly work
than the nation not only is
back slidden but it's less than a hundred years from complete destruction
word to within fifty years jerusalem would be sacked
and destroyed
in within a hundred years
the jewish people would go into
turned out to be almost a two thousand year
diaspora
so this is the context of jesus' ministry
jesus the messiah son of god has only three years to minister on earth
and he wants it to count
to have the greatest impact so
who would you think that it would go to
to pick for disciples
go to the influential right powerful the well gifted
makes sense
No! Not jesus
you know i have a thing to do with them
that jesus he's spending time with the disenfranchised he spending time
he goes to the sinners of the community
jesus is radical we can never get away from the fact that christ is radical
he was radical in its time yes
it brought into the cross
which was his purpose
but he was radical
he was not about pleasing men
and and i think uh...
it's always important to read
in fact
these pharisees and the religious people were looking for him to
begin to uh... take his ministry the traditional conservative way every
minister would rise up in the jewish community
and that is begin to present himself
to the to the uh... the leaders with this message
and dont
they get their approval
he was it about getting the approval man
nor was he about the approval getting uh... getting the approval of the of the
religious elite
not jesus
but has so they're complaining about he wasn't just receiving them
but it says in verse one and two that he was eating with them
who were the sinners back then
your tax gathers
okay they were prostitutes. These are the things we think about
but it's actually different
it is important to know this sinners in the Jewish community at the time
was a little different
because it was a religious community of culture
uh... of of uh...
uh... religious people
it actually means
the something entirely different, well not entirely different but
the greek word for sinner is uh... in John nine thirty four and you're gonna
have to bear with my pronunciation of greek it's not my main stay here
aposonongogues
aposonongogues
aposonongogues
which means literally means to be de-synagogue
okay needs to be de-synagogue
so look the community
of of
of of families the community in in jerusalem in in israel to time
it was all about the synagogue were you part of the synagogue or weren't you
you were deemed a sinner by the ruling elite
if you are not
part of the synagogue you've been cast out
there literally three different levels
of being
separated or excommunicated if you will
the first one was actually just a rebuke and if you go into the mosaic law
you onto the the logger
the first five books of
moses you'll see
there were different rules and regulations in regards to
what u
needed to follow to stay in the community
that's where a lot of this comes from
the first level was
basically a seven-day rebuked
you deliver were four is the file
and what that was is just uh...
you were basically outcast of the community for seven days
sean penn
okay and
all caps
the next level is mid week
casting out any usually lasted thirty days where people were required to stay
in a minimum of
four to six cupid's away that's about six thirty
away from the center
and i i i imagine i don't know for sure but i had to be away identify people
in this category
okay so i'm hoping you're starting to get a context we'll call toll context
what sinners makan where jesus was in this community the third level
actually param
exp art c_ h_ e_ r_ t_ m
and at this stage is a hard
c_h_ in hebrew
it means a casting out of indefinite length of time
in the person was to be treated as if
they were dead
this is obviously the most severe in fact it did to this day
the orthodox community will treat
somebody that becomes comes the faith in christ messiah
as if they're dead
i can't speak
personally do this because
i've had that happen to me not by my parents but by other family members
so jesus was
hanging with the aids
he's hanging with you senator okay
that's radical
because if you are up incoming rabbi that's the last thing you were supposed
to do
no you were supposed to do that you were supposed to
not hang with these people so he's dieting
so he's haywood these and you know what he had a pretty good track record with
them
okay one of the guys that i thought of as as prince guy was the key is
it doesn't say that the psyche as sort of a guy who's up in the tree we don't
want go there
he's up in a tree jesus come by comes by itself we're gonna have dinner your
house
he wasn't just the tax collector
but if you read
uh... read beatrice jackson says he was the key
tax collector
he was ahead dot in jesus when it was house guess what the result was
he said afterwards
jesus visit with him
half of my possessions are giving to the poor
unify defrauded anybody
i'm gonna give them four times the amount
that they were before
pretty powerful
pretty amazing were the result
of being
he's
nami
we know it we saw alternatives is ministry the impact the has
disenfranchised
the outcasts
the ted lepers that come to a murky old
mary magdalene
bedroom seventy
demons cast out
it goes on
there's a pillow scripture matthew chapter nine
first night two thirteen
that it happened that is jesus was requiring at the table in the house will
hold
many past collectors and sitters came
were dying would jesus in his disciples
when the first you saw this they said to his disciples wise your teacher eating
with the tax collectors and sailors
when jesus heard this he said
it is not
for those who are healthy
who need a position but those who were sent
book golan learn what this means i desire compassionate not sacrifice
for a did not come to call the right to spit centers
jesus came not to prop up the religion of the day
but to pursue the lost with the covenant
of grace improve
praise god
how awesome
he came to pursue you pursue me
it it's important that we never lose sight of this
this is really the core
that jesus is mission
and this is the core of our mission to
because really at the end of the day who's the locks
it's you and me
it's hopeless
smile i love about the gospel
it levels the playing field i don't hear your background
i don't care how much money you have roger how much pain you have it all
means nothing to dot
reporter
everybody puts their pants on one way at a time
okay i've heard it's pet
anyways
everyone romans three twenty three cents all have said have fallen short of the
glory of god
let's read of are read out versus three three seven
so jesus told them this parable after
he heard the grumbling about the fact that dealing with these
in and listening in receiving
the centers
what men among you if he has a hundred sheet
has lost one of them does not leave the ninety nine two oh
uh... in the open pastor and go after the one which is lost until he finds it
what he has found a he lays it on his shoulders
rejoicing
and what he comes home
because together as friends of his neighbor saying to them
rejoice with me for i found my seat which was lost
i tell you that in the same way
there will be more joy and having over one center who repaired
that over ninety nine writers
who need notepad
here you go
god's heart
this is his heart
the reality is everybody needs a physician
i know i do
i need to possess an everyday praise the lord
god's heart
pursues the lost
he desires at nine should perish
that all should be saved
shocking it's scandalous as it might seem
the creator of the universe loves you
he wants you
it intimate relationship with him
that's scandalous enchilada religion
in on the face of the earth
that each instance
it brings us to us
it's all
this is prob pursuing on us
he's been called the hound of heaven
i really like that day but it became too mine was putting this together
but he pursues us
he keep pursuing this
i don't know if some of you um had the chance
to see uh... late les miserables over uh... over the break anybody seen the
movie
you get
uh... reasonable amount of us off
uh... it's so powerful
by a way i think about this movie i mean
i could watch movie about the
pull the kleenex out
okay
you know uh...
what it is it's all about this guy john bell john who's a convict
the sad thing was packed and they three imprisoned for five years cousteau loaf
of bread
the rough place
uh... occurred
he comes out of there and he is marked
he's martinis a convict he can find all grace whatsoever
and a wonderful thing is he bumps and
throttle ranges a in victor hugo on a bill that guy was a christian he's a guy
that wrote the book but novel that the movie was
uh... based on
the amazing thing
is this bishop
loved guide
he loved god inept up the worst time of his life
he's in our cassidy's disenfranchised
he can even find a place to sleep this bishop opens his home
he comes in
that night
john bell john resource to who he was at the time he steals the silver
gets caught comes back
and the bishop says you forgot to take the kids
and it goes on from there the poor guy the guy has a
born in new experience
heat transfer
for because comes in contact
with the power of god the content of grace the content of truth this man
shows him
that he is more important than all the silver that he has
anything you know
his soul is
is one that got right there in that
grace of god suspense becomes depraved to water
